  • and partially based on personal trauma

Yeah, I suspected that, due to her pigheadedness. Doubling down is a trauma response. And it makes me angry, because it’s continuing the cycle of abuse. Turning on an entire group of people because you have never adequately addressed your trauma is wrong.

Like, my earliest introduction to a male guardian included him emotionally, financially, and then physically abusing me. I wasn’t even an adult, I was a minor. But I understand it’s not okay to demonize all men because of that. You take people on a case by case basis.

I also understand quite clearly that men don’t NEED to put on a skirt to gain access to women to abuse. In fact, being trans punts you right to the bottom of the social pole, and puts you in danger. Identifying as trans to gain access to women is socially stupid and NOT NEEDED to gain access to victims. It’s already very easy for an abuser to abuse without taking the social hit of being trans. How do we know this? ::gestures at 100s of years of history where abusers abused without changing social status to do it::

Also, on the JKR front…the fact that I can get over my trauma–which honestly is much worse than hers and started younger if we’re playing Oppression Olympics–while living in poverty while she rolls in money is like…what the fuck. WHY. Why is she rolling in the mud and the mold and the hate and spite? WHY?

I could do SO MUCH to improve myself and my health if I had her resources…and she just takes what she has and rolls in mud and hurts others…I mean, why don’t more people act like Dolly Parton when they get rich? We need more Dolly Partons and less J. K. Rowlings.

Yeah, I guess I’m grumpy on the internet again.

  • Are there still Protestants who are assmad about the “papist” Catholics?

    Yes, there are.

I strongly suspect right now the stuff we just saw with Vance and now MTG is an attempt to exploit existing American anti-Catholic vitriol that’s been in the USA since forever. Basically, a further attempt to “divide and conquer” the USA using existing religious divides. I don’t think this is just some variation of Republicans being hypocrites, I think all of this is to purposefully further an agenda to divide America further to prevent unity, this time between white Catholics and white Protestants.

The Catholic Church has absolutely done lots stuff that is wrong, in modern times and historically, but at the same time, in certain Protestant households you still have folks putting Catholics in the same sentence as Muslims and Jews when they go on their bigoted and racist screeds. They see Catholics in the same way they see black folks, Jews, Muslims, immigrants, etc. But since it’s “white Christian against white Christian” people don’t talk about it much, it’s more acceptable to hate Catholics.

And you also get ex-Protestant/ex-religious folks who were raised like that, to see Catholics as pagan, who don’t seem to realize that while there’s definitely stuff the Catholic church has done wrong, there ALSO is a whole shit-ton of Protestants in the USA who simply hate Catholics because they were taught that from childhood, along with all of the other racist stuff.

They might have started to de-clutter their mind of other stereotypes or biases or racisms they grew up with, like the ones against Jews or Muslims or whatever, but don’t stop to wonder about how much shit they were told about Catholics is wrong or right. So they’re still susceptible to dog-whistles even if they consider themselves atheist.

And that’s what Vance and MTG are doing right now, dog-whistling against yet another group in the US to prevent unity with them.

Yeah. When real scientists are either A) already fired, B) Soon to be fired, or C) having their academic institutions threatened with funding pulls if they don’t fall in line and so live in fear of being fired, the whole stunt was INCREDIBLY tone-deaf and honestly just makes me more angry. I might have brushed it off if it’d happened last year…but THIS year? It’s more like a punch in the gut. Women’s rights are being GUTTED, women are being fired simply for being women–and you’re trotting off to space? In THIS political environment? Fuck off. You should’ve backed out and put your money where it would do people more good right now.

I wish SO MUCH that more performers would follow Dolly Parton’s example. She’s made no bones about getting plastic surgery and such done (that oft-paraphrased line that it “takes a lot of money to look this cheap”)–but then she also turns around and invests in her local community. Because she grew up poor and remembers and wants to help.

And if people HAVE to be space-tourists…would it kill anyone to send a fucking AUTHOR? Someone who can DESCRIBE, in great detail, all the smells/sounds/sensations, in their books?

With anyone and everyone else, the experience of visiting is stuck in their heads. You can’t accurately share what it’s like to be in space via music, the data transfer is too lossy and too vague. And a video/photo only sees the external stuff, it doesn’t share what it feels like inside, or any space-specific details that a trained observer would’ve noticed.

Only an author could deliver something close to the actual EXPERIENCE to the REST of us with any sort of fidelity, because books are the closest we have to telepathy right now. Yet, nobody’s sent a sci-fi author.

Sorry. I’m grumpy. So, so grumpy right now.

  • Are a bunch of millennials and gen-x deemed gang members because they followed a trend?

Yes. That’s the point. They decide they don’t like someone because of something they posted on social media, or texted, or whatever, then they look for a tattoo that they can pretend means gang membership, and boom, the person who dared to say something against them is sent to the new gulag.

They’re using tattoos because there’s a segment of America all pearl-clutchy about them, who subconsciously think anyone with a tat must be trash and involved in gang stuff. And because some people assume those with tats are trash, it’s easier to vanish them without as much widespread protest. The presence of tats will be used to victim-blame.

It’s similar to how various drugs were targeted to get rid of white liberal hippies who smoked weed and black people by throwing them in jail. Find some trait that a portion of the population you want to lock up shares, make it illegal or, in this case, a “symbol” of “gang membership”, then whisk away the people you intended to target all along.
