Nah, it’s not crashing. The core business is still there and will be there in the future - it answers a need. I did have a similar reading of it, though mine tends towards justifying the security robot as justified as very clearly the survival of the settlement is immediately at stake there - in other words my reading is that humans have not been able to survive in this world outside of self-contained pockets and are very afraid of going out of them for fear of messing up with something that will terminate them. Techno-fragile might be the right word.

The average person in the developed world is an active part of the problem - not much out fault to be honest, we are (all here I assume) part of a social system and it’s very hard to live within limits when the whole country is functioning much beyond. Just by BEING in the UK your carbon footprint goes +1.5TonsCO2/year from public service and infrastructure emissions… (if you’re in Switzerland it’s 4+Tons)
