The argument I can see for it (from the great power geopolitical perspective) is that it would be a nuclear regional war right in Russia/China’s backyard, and might distract/degrade them. But again, the very high chance of total annihilation inherent in this should immediately discount it as a viable action. But we also live in some sort of hyper reality at this point, so perhaps the capitalist death-drive really is being made real right now.

Yeah those are all bad, but deliberately provoking a nuclear conflict makes no sense, it’s literally no win. It’s generally accepted that there really isn’t such a thing as a regional or contained nuclear conflict. The other examples are bad, but have a few steps until immediate apocalypse. Even Ukraine with Russia Sabre-rattling about nukes would still have required them to initiate a nuclear conflict on their own. Kashmir is top of the list for how nuclear wars are likely to kick off for last decade.

I’m not saying it’s impossible, but I dunno, you’d have to really ready to dr.Strangelove it up in a mineshaft to green light this.

This would be an incredibly stupid plan—if they start launching nukes there’s a reasonably high chance that someone else’s detection systems will cause preemptive launches and that’s all folks! Even if that didn’t happen, a serious nuclear exchange between India and Pakistan could cause a global famine for years and be nearly as catastrophic.

I think because it’s not just prices—back in covid there were supply chain disruptions as places shut down. Some of that may be replicated here as countries reroute, or shipping gets disrupted. Basically just that as this stuff bites, there may be some mid-term supply chain disruptions and we could see shortages of certain products.

For instance we did a Costco order this weekend, and the typical Kirkland paper products we normally get were not available. We were able to just get a different brand in this case, but that did pique my interest. I remember being at Costco back in 2019 and there was a line snaking through the store and they had staff guarding the toilet paper and rationing it to customers, 2 max to avoid people trying to essentially profiteer in the shortage.

Anyway, on the one hand I’d say that you can source TP from a lot of places, but on the other hand, if logistics is going haywire as container orders are all halted to “wait and see” you can imagine that some staples are gonna get held up there. So basically I would imagine shortages to be temporary, but possible.

I buy the premise generally, but what makes me doubt it is if it were true, I feel like Trump would have bragged about it publicly at some point.

This is exactly correct. I thought I hadn’t heard him before a while back, went and listened to top tracks, and realized I’d heard all of it—it was the background soundtrack of basically every public venue I’d been to in the last decade.

Yeah somehow all of the mechanics really come together to create these really memorable battles that are far more interesting than just point and clicking unit groupings. I like how you get attached to stuff also, so that losses feel very impactful. Some of the defense missions where I’ve just been hanging g on by a thread, very fun stuff.

It’s a really excellent game. Offers a huge spectrum of experience; you can play it very simply at a remove, or micromanage down to supplies foraged from dead enemies. You can FPS control any units. You can capture enemies vehicles that aren’t destroyed and level them up in dynamic campaigns. Great visuals also. Strongly recommend if you like complex RTS and the timeframe.
