I used to have a Swedish running partner (doing postdoc in California). We’d argue about who had the ‘least well-informed’ voters (not the specific word we used). He claimed Sweden, I claimed US. He was disabusing me of the impression that all Swedes were knowledgable and cosmopolitan. Ongoing friendly argument – until McCain picked Palin as his VP candidate. I sent him a text: ‘I win.’
Did not know; only knew about Otis by happenstance. I suppose this is now so commonplace it’s not considered newsworthy. NYT front page does however consider whether a reader should not attend estranged friends’ holidays.
