  • But poor people don’t have the financial capacity to stop doing [harmful thing]

So therefore, I as a privileged upper middle class person, refuse to not do the [harmful thing].

    Spoiler

I like calling this sort of “I can still use my monster truck because poor people can’t afford to not buy fast fashion.” broken logic, “solidaritywashing”.

Pretending to be empathetic to marginalised people but using it to perpetuate inequalities.

  • And actually in some places prarieland is probably more important for conservation.

In my case it was plant a couple of native fruit trees for me, dig a small perrenial pond and add some rocks so amphibians can feel safe, and sprinkle in seeds for native grasses, especially edible ones and let nature do it’s work. It was probably my favourite. Loved it.

Shame I don’t live there anymore.

To be fair, the if you look at the scientific evidence at face value, free will and the sense of self are probably both illusions that work because our brain is not a magic computer but a survival machine. It’s made to process input and help use information to aid survival. It simplifies, cuts corners, and creates an illusion of a narrative self.

    (the sense of self)

“you” are just a narrative heuristic for your brain. An effective simplification/method to make decisions based on finite data and finite computational power in a world with near infinite complexity.
