That’s a thing many people have warned me about to be honest and it’s not the first time I was obsessed with moving to a different country. Years ago, I was certain that I wanted to move to Canada, but that eventually subsided. My dream of moving to Australia has always been there in the background and I’m determined to do it.
I’m aware that it would become normal after a while, maybe even mundane, but if my trip taught me anything, it’s that even normality feels way better over there than here in Germany if that makes sense.
Germans don’t tend to speak English /s
The beautiful thing about not being a native speaker is that you can choose between adapting British or American English. Most people over here seem to lean towards American English. I myself try to be as British/Aussie as I can with my English.
Yeah, nah.
I have family all over NSW (and some in Queensland and ACT); I went to Sydney, Canberra, Wagga Wagga and Albury.
Out of all cities, I liked Wagga the best, just a nice and quiet country town with a great community. I can totally see myself living there quite comfortably.
I’ve seen the Blue Mountains, been camping in the bush, went to a few lookouts, zoos and national parks. My top spot is Bobbin Head in Mount Colah though.
More than happy to chat some more about it via PM if you want.
Same here, Australia just always had this draw on me; especially since meeting some of my Aussie family when I was still quite young. I have this one memory of one of my great cousins who’s this great big biker guy talking to me about motorbikes and me not understanding a thing at the time.
Seeing him again was just so cool…
Going there on my own was already a huge undertaking for me and I’m convinced that I’ll find my way. The only thing I fear is the whole visa process (aka. the most important part). Getting a holiday visa was stupidly easy but working visas are apparently pretty difficult to get…
And than there’s the housing problem, which hopefully will get better with Albo still in office. It helps that I don’t want to live in a big city, though. Sydney is a beautiful city, but man is it busy. Canberra is a bit more relaxed but a bit bland IMO.
Yeah, one of my relatives down there has a partner from the UK who is going through the same process right now.
Thanks mate! I hope it won’t take too much longer…
Another great alternative to Acrobat (Reader) is Okular; it’s free, open source and runs on Linux, Windows and macOS.
It’s been my go-to PDF reader since switching to Linux, since it already came pre-installed with Manjaro KDE.
Spent the easter weekend with my Australian relatives; it’s been truly wonderful
About 630€ worth of SteelSeries gaming peripherals including their flagship keyboard and mouse at the time.
I had to RMA the keyboard twice because of its input messing up; I didn’t bother trying to replace the third one once that messed up, I just bought a Model M instead. The mouse was fine, albeit very over-engineered; It has an OLED screen on its side and a vibration motor for some reason. Had to RMA that once for wear issues but I still use the second one as it’s a great mouse all things considered.
Their customer support is great, their products not so much.
Someone once said on here that NEC made TVs like that but I couldn’t find anything
My experience with Australia so far.
You could always go for /e/os though
Edit: Didn’t know it was this bad…
Eh, I’d rather sell old flagship phones on and have them be used as a phone for a while longer…
“computer CPUs” is great as well.
“I’m sorry; we predicted that, if we were to release you now, you’ll murder someone.”
Reminder to watch Minority Report again… I don’t even remember whether that movie was any good or not
Wow, this is super distasteful and manipulative.
