That reminds me of how they used to advertise alcohol as being good for pregnant women. Which it kind of… you know… isn’t, but it got lodged pretty deeply into some cultures.

The ad mentions a cap and a 4sec delay, so I imagine this is something much the same as that.

I watched somebody play it on youtube, and it seemed like a few notes of 1812 played when the game was over. Heavy on few! The ad copy saying it features the 1812 overture is… a stretch!

Did anything stop someone from getting good enough to play it indefinitely on one quarter? Like some undefeatable game mechanic?

I removed one entire post I made a few weeks ago, which was from an AI source, which I didn’t know at the time I posted it.

In this case the existence of these cages is very well attested, inc with the wikipedia info above, and many articles in reputable publications. If you have evidence one of the photos is AI, I’ll edit the post to remove that and replace it with another, since there are endless photos of these things from the era.

By the comments further in the thread, everybody is going, “Had one, suffered lots of injuries, totally worth it though!” So probably a safe bet that many injuries were sustained from these. On the plus side, it doesn’t look very easy to flip when you skid it out.

About zeros, my guess would be that the ad doesn’t mean zero in the literal sense, but in the sense of how many places to shift intermediate products by during a multiplication. You’d add zeros to the right of each term, to get the power of 10 right for the intermediate products. Normally doing a hand multiplication you just don’t write those down, merely imply it with alignment. But in principle, the zeros are there, and you have to get the count of them right.

But that’s just guessing. I have never used a machine like that before!
