I was a runner, got injured, gained about 30lbs, and started running again. A couple of thoughts:
- you’ll be slower, and that’s OK. My pace dropped by about 30 to 45 seconds per mile, but I realized I’d rather be running slowly than trying to push harder and re-injure myself
- injury is a real possibility. Carrying the extra weight was definitely noticeable in my joints and muscles, so I had to be mindful of increasing mileage slowly and being better about stretching post-run, taking rest days and doing strength training
- if you’re hoping to lose weight by running, be careful. I don’t know what your running goals are, but ramping up mileage and staying in a caloric deficit for extended periods aren’t compatible. Your muscles, tendons, everything, need nutrients to recover and get stronger. Watch your macros carefully and don’t starve yourself
Ultimately, I went on a GLP-1 for about 5 months while maintaining a pretty conservative (for me) weekly mileage and doing more weight training instead, watched my protein intake like a hawk, and that helped me drop the weight and begin increasing mileage. It was amazing how much my speed correlated to my weight and how much easier it is to run and be injury free now that I’ve dropped the pounds.

Running@lemmy.world•Copenhagen Half Marathon 2027 Entries Go To Ballot
1·2 天前Did you read the article? It specifically says they will be ending that practice.
There will be no resale platform for CPH Half 2027. An entry belongs to the runner it is issued to and cannot be passed to anyone else

2·2 天前To me it seems that the only drawback is that they also did away with bib re-sale. There doesn’t seem to be any info on what happens to the slot if a runner commits, pays for the bib, and then DNS’s. Seems like a waste of a bib.

1·4 天前I understand that trail running “feels” different in terms of atmosphere and culture but I don’t think the things you list make a practical difference for the purposes of this comparison.
I’d also argue that the goals of the runners aren’t that different. There are two types of goals in both kinds of running: to finish and enjoy the journey, or to push yourself and see how hard you can do against an outside standard, whether that’s other competitors or the clock. Sure, the proportion of who is chasing which category of goal is different between trail and road running, but I don’t buy into the idea that the motivations in general are different.

2·4 天前I’d be willing to bet that a much smaller number of runners will use them if the pre-filled cups are still available. Sounds like there are some lessons to learn from Paris, but only offering re-fills is doable. There are plenty of trail running races that make it work.

Love to see that positivity and not the patronizing attitude I’ve seen from some people about women starting out who can only lift “light” weights. Let’s encourage progress instead of perfection.
