Yeah, unless someone does the research I agree - it’s all anecdotal (personally I’ve experienced ridiculous amounts of censorship on lemmy.ca, for example, beyond what I’d ever expect). I have a feeling a lot of the “tankie dickishness” is just people not liking it when .ml users express their opinions or call out lies or unintentional misinfo.
Every time I hear about .ml users being “dickish” it’s always just someone claiming that. Haven’t seen anything like that, at least not more than other servers. Same for the supposed censorship. Feels likr something people just repeat like a meme.
There’s no shortcut you can use to achieve things simply, especially if you want actual anonymity (an extremely high bar). Installing GrapheneOS is the bare minimum (Calyx doesn’t even come close). Then you need to avoid services that ask for personally identifiable info, use VPN for everything (and use public wifi for initial setup), avoid a KYC SIM or SIM in general (also use airplane mode / wifi whenever you can).
But really I’m guessing you don’t actually need proper anonymity (privacy in general is more reasonable).
Did they? Installing APKs doesn’t require an account afaik, just a settings toggle (not even in developer mode, just the regular settings).
That can work, but it could go the other way too. We’ve already seen scaremongering claims like “right to repair will allow creepy car mechanics to stalk your location”, “encryption is used by criminals”, “local image scanning prevents child abuse”, etc.
What a waste. Literally dozens of other countries with capable research institutions but no space program that could have benefitted. Instead they choose to give it to the nation that kills kids for shits and giggles.
thought-stopping meaningless buzzword
Goddamn, that was impressive, you can tell there’s a lot of real enthusiasm there. He went so much deeper than I expected, I even learned a couple of things despite using Linux for 5+ years now. Great to see Linux being pushed to non-tech audiences.
Oh brother 🙄
Can’t speak for other cryptos (generally stay away), but Monero at least has a track record of being actually private/anonymous (unlike btc) and generally doesn’t fluctuate in price nearly as much as others (something the devs try to design into it). Several trusted privacy-focused services (VPNs, VoIP, etc.) accept it as a payment method. If I want to donate to Lemmy, I’d rather do so in a way that keeps my bank from knowing the details and keeping a record of that for who knows how long.
Yes, pretty easy - that’s exactly how I use it
I hate that quest devices are the only reasonably priced and widely available ones. Everything else is either super expensive, way too old, or doesn’t run standalone Android with sideloading access (meaning no true ownership of games you paid for via pirated copies).
As a baby leftist who hasn’t read much but who finds anarchism more appealing on the surface, your responses are disappointing. Instead of saying “you’re wrong” why not reference some examples of anarchist success stories you claim exist? What is the anarchist equivalent of the USSR or China?
Junk DNA is still a thing - some parts of thr genome are verifiably junk, and the rest is just “unkown”. It’s just that some of the “unknown” bits back in the day have now been found to actually be useful. At least this is my understanding as a non expert.
👍
Lmao. Who told you I have “nothing but hate” for the country? You talk like you know me. I hate your mainstream political parties and the people who bend over backwards to do genocide apologetics, especially when we know that in a few decades, a lot of those people will tut-tut at “our past mistakes” and do some land acknowledgements style performative bullshit. There’s plenty about Canada and specific Canadians I very much like. But of course it’s easier for you to dehumanize people with “they hate us cause they anus” rhetoric like most right wingers love to do.
Side note: By the way, I came here for career and economic opportunities above all else (opportunities that my country didn’t have because of your dear UK whose inbred pedo leaders you still feature on your currency, and the US who you’re basically a colony of). It was a pure business transaction - your government gets much needed immigrants and an infusion of tax money, inflated tuition fees, and living expenses into their economy, and I get to be here. I have no obligation to “like” or be “loyal” to anyone (the whole premise of having loyalty for a capitalist country is questionable anyways). Despite all that, I do feel those things to some extent because that’s just human nature I guess. Your country is not owed any of it.
I’m really not sure why I read this whole thing. No clue what it means but I loved reading it.
