I think the main thing is that it’s the lowest friction for just sending a message, making a “post” gives people pause, but sending a message people will do no problem, so small communities get more activity in Discord than anywhere else

you can search public rooms but not public Spaces? how do you find Spaces? they should’ve copied the good parts about Discord lol (EDIT: I found the way to search public Spaces, I guess it can’t search across instances though which is a shame, it probably wouldn’t require much disk space to index the name and description of every Matrix Space)

I feel like this would be a moderation nightmare. Instant approval to use any instance just because you have an account on some other instance? You can just self host a troll instance and start logging in from everywhere else.

Also it breaks the community feeling of an instance. And I still don’t really see why this feature is so often requested to be honest.

idk if PieFed has this, but something Lemmy is missing that Reddit has: modmail. On Reddit you can send a PM that goes to the moderators of the community/subreddit instead of PMing them individually. I actually don’t know what it looks like on the moderator’s side, I was never a mod for a big subreddit, but I imagine there’s a way to prevent every mod from responding to the same message.

My admin panel on Lemmy has a slur regex filter option, and a list of blocked URLs, some options for rate limiting posts/comments/images/PMs/searches/registrations, and a way to view/delete images that were uploaded by users.

One thing I was thinking, I can see the moderation history for a user (all the posts/comments that were deleted and all their bans) but I can’t see all of the reports for a user, how many times the user has been reported even with no action taken.
