  • Mate, come join us at the @actuallyautistic@a.gup.pe group on Mastodon. There are a lot of fellow autists who will be there to lend an ear if you need to vent or need some practical advice. I recommend the autistics.life instance. I have the same issue irl, people will expect me to be there when they need me, but now that I need someone on my side, they’ll happily throw me under the bus. You’re not alone, even if it’s just a few randos online.

  • Here in the UK I have never had to file taxes. It’s all done as PAYE. Whatever software your employer uses will work out how much you owe via your tax code each pay packet and it’s auto deducted. It’s only self employed people (maybe other types of earner, I wouldn’t know, I’m just a waged employee) who have to submit their tax forms. It’s weird other countries aren’t doing it this way.

  • more Nicole spam

This was the username (already reported). The Nicole text was part of the image (green text on black) and the message body was the bitcoin IDs. I find targeting the Fediverse for this type of scam to be a bit pointless. I doubt there are many people on here who would fall for this sort of scam. The only advantage I can see to targeting the Fediverse is the inability to restrict private messages.

I got the message a few mins after logging on. Both times on Lemmy, I got the Nicole spam when online (I can’t remember if that was the case on Mastodon). I don’t know if that’s coincidence.

  • Those policital parties include the Monster Raving Loony party and the Pastafarians. We have Count Binface or is it Lord Buckethead running for seats. Minority parties rarely get more than a handful of votes, they don’t get any seats.

We have FPTP here too, traditionally it’s a race between Labour vs Conservative. A few areas tend to vote Lib Dem, and one consitutiency has been Green for a very long time. But generally it’s Labour vs Tories. Now with the UK MAGA (the grifter Nigel Farridge, yes I spelt his name like that on purpose) is gaining popularity on the back of the rise of the hard right. The Tories went full hard right in 2019 when Johnson purged the party of any moderates, so only the loons who worshipped at the altar of brexit were allowed to stay. They continued this trajectory which means they’re almost defunct, since anyone who’s hard/far right will move to Reform (bunch of racist thugs) and the more moderate Tory voters will switch to Lib Dem or just sit it out. Although Labour seems to still be stuck in 2016 and pandering to the Brexiteers, even though polls show a majority for rejoin or at least closer relations with the EU (eg single market/customs union). So it seems if things continue, it’ll be Labour vs Reform. They did well in the popular vote, as much as I hate FPTP, I’m glad it kept them from getting more than 4 seats. Interestingly enough, the media really really pushes Reform. They get tons of airtime, so much promotion. The libdems in comparison get barely any, despite having more seats. The Greens have 4 seats and barely get a look in in the media. The media (inc the BBC, Laura Kuensberg especially) is definitely favouring the hard right.

The current leader of the opposition, Kemi Badenoch, is a joke. Just your daily reminder that this woman thinks asylum seekers shouldn’t be allowed here because they didn’t earn their right to live here.

She only has British citizenship at all because her parents came here from Nigeria just before her mum was due to give birth, booked a private hospital for the birth, then bogged off straight back to Nigeria. That’s how she got her British passport. That’s how she “earned” her right to be here. Hypocrite POS.

The TLDR channel on YouTube explains a lot of British politics in a quick way for anyone who wants to know more.

  • Drops is free if you get the kids version. No ads and you can reset your allowance for free just by pressing the timer. It has less vocab though. Also be careful because their translations aren’t always accurate (it gave the word for a stuffed animal, as in taxidermy, for cuddly toy in European Portuguese. I reported it several years ago and it’s still not fixed) and they translate “how much” differently in different languages (eg in Arabic it translates to how much quantity, but in Portuguese and French, how much price). So I had a lot of fun thinking I was asking how much I need to pay for a bag of potatoes and the man kept telling me 500g.

I haven’t used duolingo since they brought in that stupid crown system years ago. I got my 600 day streak and then stopped using it. I heard it’s even worse now. It was a good starting point, but you’ll quickly have to supplement. Pre-crowns, duolingo was pretty good. Memrise was much better, but they’ve overhauled that now too. Also I dislike that duolingo has time for fictional languages, but refuses to do real languages like European PT, British English, etc.
