  • Yeah, I originally joined dbzero because its an anarchist instance and I am an anarchist, but grew to dislike it cause of how pro-AI it is. So I swapped to slrpnk. But slrpnk is down and so I am stuck using dbzero till its back up.

I find it kinda wild that they are so pro-AI too cause all of the friends I have that are anarchists are varying degrees of anti-AI. Personally, I would be fine with AI if we lived in an anarchist society because no one would be negatively affected by it. However we don’t, so there is only a very very small niche use case where you can use AI ethically. Otherwise I see it as scabbing. Being anti-copyright shouldn’t mean walking all over artists and other creators.

  • It is exactly this. Anarchists are generally really bad at explaining their ideas in a digestible way for the average person. I myself struggle at doing it. I think most of it is what you say, and I think part of it is that phenomenon where experts in a field have a hard time dumbing things down for people cause they overestimate the amount of knowledge the average person has in whatever field. I know what this poster is saying cause I have the needed historical context and ideological knowledge to understand what they are really saying. Most people don’t and read this and think we are fucking stupid, insane, delusional, and utopian idealists. Anarchists are horrible at conveying our ideals cause too many of us are dedicated to conveying our beliefs through inside jokes.

  • I think they are more likely to be a fash imo. They are trying to normalize a reactionary and far right texts. Fascists love to use the Unabomber to normalize reactionary ideology in leftist circles. And they always do that shit of trying to separate art from the artist like what the commentor is doing

Edit: Check their profile, they are conservative. Their username is occultist. They like the Unabomber Manifesto. The dude is a fascist not a fed.

  • I do not think it is unreasonable of the person to call this out. Liking the Unabomber’s manifesto and saying its their favorite “anarchist” text is a huge red flag. The person being a fed or fash is entirely a realistic concern. Fascists use this strategy all the time. They try to normalize reactionary and far right texts by coming into circles and trying to relate the texts to people and cover their asses by play “separate the art from the artist card.” Like what the person is doing by saying they don’t like Ted but like his work. That is fascist tactics 101. Feds do similar stuff but in an effort to cause division and conflict. I think its less likely the commentor is a fed, and more likely they are a fash.

  • Its an insanely problematic text with some good points. There are actual anarchist writings that take the few good ideas Ted had and ditches all the problematic stuff. Anyone who says the Unabomber Manifesto is there favorite or similar is a huge red flag. It should not be compared to anarchist ideology. This is not a separate the art from the artist situation because Ted’s shittiness is baked deep into the art itself. I also caution against anarcho-primitivist writings and ideology (the closest anarchist ideology to the Unabomber’s) because those that believe that society at large should be anarcho-primitivist is insanely ableist (because without modern medicine and technology a lot of disabled people would either die or live painful lives). Anarcho-primitivists who just want to practice it individually are fine though.
