The reason the US doesn’t do that is thanks to lobbying by companies like Intuit and H&R Block.

I haven’t personally seen it connected to Digimon World 2, though I did watch a Japanese streamer play through the game. They know about the PocketStation and Pocket Digimon World but apparently they’re rare and expensive, if they even still work. Guessing the battery will need replacing, as it’s about that age.

PocketStations aren’t actually that rare or expensive. A quick look on eBay has them going for around $30 (unless you want a black one). The battery will definitely need replacing, but it’s just a CR2032 (the same as a Dreamcast’s VMU) and a pack of 10 of those is under $10. The Pocket Digimon World games aren’t too expensive either with the original going for around $20 and the other two being around $30 each. All together that does add up to quite a bit, but it isn’t that bad when there are some games out there that go for hundreds.

If I recall correctly the PS1/PSX has a region lock chip, so to use it you’d need a Japanese PlayStation, a Japanese copy or burn of Digimon World 2 and one of these. Sounds expensive.

It is possible to bypass the region lock with a mod chip (requires soldering) or an exploit like Tonyhax International (requires a memory card, a way to install the exploit, and possibly one of several specific games).

In case anyone’s curious, the plane appears to be a Douglas C-47 Skytrain. It’s a great plane with a great history. They were absolutely essential to the success of D-Day and the Berlin Airlift. For Japanese I use an IME (input method editor), specifically Fcitx. Basically it lets you type in romaji and converts that into kana or kanji. Just note that it needs an additional package (like fcitx-mozc) for each language.

Also, in case you’re unaware, there was another Pokémon Picross for Game Boy Color, but it was scrapped very late into development. The good thing is that the ROM was part of the Nintendo Gigaleak a few years ago. The game is in Japanese, but there’s a translation patch available. I also recommend adding this patch as well because the game’s time limits are incredibly unforgiving.

Okay, so for some context .ml is run by the Lemmy devs and the devs are openly tankies (authoritarian communists). .ml, along with Lemmygrad (also run by the devs) and Hexbear are known as the Tankie Triad. While not as bad as the other two, .ml still has a lot of tankies compared to instances that aren’t part of the triad. Additionally, .ml used to be the recommended instance (until .world came along), making it one of the more populated instances. Most other instances defederate with Lemmygrad and Hexbear, but not necessarily .ml.

Basically, there’s a lot of extremely opinionated and often combative people there and provoking them (intentionally or not) is very easy.

This reminds me that I once read about a Thompson Twins game that was distributed as a flexi disc record. In order to actually play the game it had to be copied to a cassette first. Apparently it’s pretty rare, since it was only available as a bonus with a specific issue of a magazine.

I have a Thinkpad T480 that I’m very happy with. I believe it’s around 7 or 8 years old, but it works great. Unlike most laptops, it doesn’t have soldered RAM, so it’s easily upgraded. One downside is that most units don’t come with a lot of storage, so you’ll probably want to get a larger drive. I spent around $200 on mine plus another $100 for the SSD. It’s a great inexpensive laptop that’ll last for years.

This is correct, however SNES Virtual Console games were also exclusive and a number of games were enhanced on New consoles.

If you’re looking to save a bit of money, you might want to consider a Japanese console and modding it. 3DS prices are pretty crazy at the moment and no one knows if they’ll ever come down.
