  • Yeah? I studied under a . . . Very clever man, who loved bringing up a case here, where several high school kids sued a government minister to force the minister for the environment to consider future generations in their decisions. They won! And then were overturned in a higher court.

And my incredibly clever professor couldn’t shut the fuck up about how that was proof that it’s good we live in a “democracy”, unlike china.

    I was studying environment science.

Dude was also a smarmy shitty teacher but hey, who’s asking…

  • As far as I can tell none of the romance options are limited by gender, certainly my (girl) tav romanced shadowheart no problems whatsoever. There are also two women who, if you save both of them at various points, show up later in the game as a couple. You can also meet a trans woman that shadowheart knew as a kid before her transition, and she’s voiced by a trans actor (Abigail Thorne) iirc, and from what I recall handled pretty well. I don’t think you’re ambushed into the romance stuff but tbqh I quite like that sorta thing so am perhaps not the best judge. Can’t remember much else but it seems relatively cool as big budget games go.

  • yes, it’s fucked up. I was at a convention shortly after Gary gygax died and they held a hastily-assembled panel and someone pointed out that in fact it’s really messed up that someone at some point has to have said “let’s make a race of elves who are evil, they can have black skin”, like WHAT. The biologist in me wants to point out that most things that live underground are pale so they even had to defy reality to make them black.

It’s one of the reasons I think it’s good that newer editions of d&d are moving away from calling them “races” in favour of “species”. Plenty of the d&d “races” are way more distinct than you’d expect human groups to be anyway.

  • I’m… Gonna hold off on forming an opinion on this one, because there absolutely still are actual neonazis out there and they fucking LOVE co-opting pro-palestinian causes. Sure, the pro-israel crowd are going to call it antisemitic either way, but if they’re right this time I don’t want to be on the wrong side/give them ammo. As long as we don’t cheer on actual antisemitism it’s easy for thoughtful people to see through their propaganda but I feel like cheering on actual neonazi violence really erodes good faith. Also I just don’t want to be saying a literal neonazi attack is good (call me crazy). It’s easy to think antisemitism is over/superseded by islamophobia but the tree of life shooting wasn’t that long ago.
