  • i work with suburboids who are too scared to go on walks. if it isn’t a walk from the parking lot to the store, or up the driveway, to their house, they won’t do it

This picks up two points I that are dear to me and they’re both just “it’s also very much a cultural issue”. Both on the suburban anxiety disorder and also on the part of how 10 minutes of continous walking is very well within territory of walking to two stores from the parking lot without moving your car. Fuck, some of them driveways in the US, probably.

It is an issue of infrastructure, absolutely, but you have to negatively incentivize people out of cars or they’ll never stop, because that’s like asking them to take a hot air balloon to whereever they’re going. It’s just not an option for them.

  • I had sort of the same idea but counting the number of traffic infractions that harm active-travel that you can see. Some of the time, some of the parts of the city it feels like you could rake in about 3000€ an hour if somebody ever just bothered to enforce this shit.

Like there’s a suicide lane next to a right-turn lane here that on every red light phase and often enough even on the green light phase has somebody on it blocking or endangering a cyclist. If you would get every second one at a 100€ a pop there’s your hourly 3000€ right there

  • This fits perfectly with how underhated cars are because in any type of built up enviroment at night or when there’s people not in soundproofed metal cages around indiscriminately sounding off the 110dB airhorn from inside one so some idiot in another one doesn’t make you wait two minutes longer because you’re both in the stupidest form of transportation, is ridicolous. I’m literally walking ova heah, fuck off with the noise.

Car horns should be louder on the inside than the outside honestly.
