  • I’m have three kids in scouting and I’m an ASM myself. I find it’s very dependant on the troop. I didn’t have a very good experience as a kid with mine, so I didn’t think I’d bring my kids into it. But when they were interested, we found a troop that turned out to be everything mine wasn’t as a kid. We accepted girls before it was officially allowed, and we’ve built a very strong, open and positive community. Enough that when they asked me to become an ASM, I happily accepted since my opinion of scouts had completely turned around.

There are still some pockets of the old guard that don’t like the direction of scouting these days. But with a good troop, it can be an amazing experience. My kids have grown and learned so much from their involvement. Me too.

  • My high school son dresses pretty much exactly like I did at his age. The other day it was 90’s themed day at school and he was stopped in the hall to take pictures becuase his outfit was so spot on. He had completely forgotten it was 90’s day and just wore his usual attire — a nirvana t-shirt over a thermal long sleeve and a pair of jnco jeans. Kid shops for himself (summer job $$) and I crack a smile every time I see him come home with another thing that could have come from my 90’s wardrobe (except I never could afford name brands).

Nah, if people cared about politics before Election Day we could be pushing for better candates in the primaries.

We absolutely will continue to get the choice between a shit sandwich and a shit burrito every time if we keep refusing to take part in the ingredient selection.

  • Right, so instead of swinging wildly back and forth, hopping that one weird trick will eventually save us, a smart strategy would realize this and be strategic.

I’m not saying this to defend dems, they are a problem as well, just not as much of an existential one. They have shown that voter pressure still leads to change, maybe not always done right, but Biden bowed out eventually due to pressure, the other side NEVER will.

We have the power, the vote can still work, the powers that be know what our idiotic voting patterns are though and they use us. Time for us to use the fucking system against them.

  • They lose elections because people are too stupid to realize that change starts locally, starts with the primaries. It’s always taken attention and work, but most people just show up on Election Day and bitch about their choices.

What is the alternative during the actual election? You need to get the fucking party that still contains some sane people in it in power, then you work your ass off to get rid of the shitty corporate ones. A general election is not the place for activism, it’s where you do damage control.
