I get a couple miles of range! There’s a decent number of nodes in my town though, and the terrain is flat, which helps significantly.

I’ve been experimenting with Meshtastic for about a year now, and I love it! It’s currently my backup comms plan for my wife, as well as a few friends and family.
Although, I am putting more of my hopes into the reticulum network, with the hopes that it grows in the future.
The device this user mentions is the Lilygo T-Deck, and it’s wonderful! It’s on the pricier side of meshtastic devices, but works quite well. It’s the device I’ve given to my friends and family in town, as it’s much less hassle than trying to teach them to use a device with the app.
I really like this idea, I’ll be stealing it.
1XEVW3Y07@reddthat.comto Late Stage Capitalism@lemmy.world•Blue or red leads to the same outcomeEnglish1·7 days agoThere are definitely plenty of Democratic missteps regarding immigration. I will not argue with you on that.
But if were an immigrant in the U.S, there’s no doubt in my mind who I’d be voting for. One side is trying to expand legal pathways to citizenship, allow families that are in the U.S. to remain, and avoid punishing children who have only ever known a home that’s been in the U.S.
The other group is rounding up immigrants to be sent to Alligator Alcatraz or prisons in El Salvador.
Does one option seem slightly better to you? Or would you agree with the OP, that both sides are equally terrible and it’s just too hard to choose?

I don’t particularly like the Democrats either, but so many refuse to vote for anything other than an impossible overnight jump to socialism.

After using Autotiling from the Cosmic desktop, I can’t go back to anything else. I’ve tried distro hopping to Gnome based desktops for a few reasons, but always wind back up on Cosmic.
Proton Pass can also be downloaded from Obtainium, if you’d rather go that route.
1XEVW3Y07@reddthat.comto Late Stage Capitalism@lemmy.world•Blue or red leads to the same outcomeEnglish2·11 days agoSo, what is your solution?
Sure, there are views that Democrats have shifted right on, but there are just as many that have stayed in place or even moved left.
Like it or not, the “lesser of two evils” approach is the only viable option right now, even if progress is only minor and incremental. The Overton Window isn’t going to make an impossible jump to socialism overnight.
1XEVW3Y07@reddthat.comto Late Stage Capitalism@lemmy.world•Blue or red leads to the same outcomeEnglish2·13 days agoThis is such a dangerous take, and I strongly ask that you re-evaluate.
I certainly have my complaints about the Democrats. But the erosion of women’s rights, trans rights, consumer rights, free speech, immigrant rights, and much more is coming from one side of the aisle, and its not the blue side.
The argument that both sides share equal blame is extremely disingenuous, divorced from reality, and is the reason that we’re in this current mess.

To give you a specific phone recommendation, I would suggest the Pixel 9a. At $500 before any discounts, it’s the best value per dollar for a privacy oriented phone. Because it just came out earlier this year, it will also be receiving security updates for years into the future.

Here’s how to protect yourself.English8·19 days agoThe only solution is to just stop using Meta services. This will always continue to happen, because the fines Meta receives are always lower than the profit gained. Vote with your data, and move to platforms that aren’t incentivized to steal it.

Congrats!
As a quality of life upgrade, I’d recommended downloading the COSMIC app store. It’s still made by the developers of Pop!, but is significantly better than the Pop Shop.
1XEVW3Y07@reddthat.comto Privacy@lemmy.ml•Does anyone have a Faraday bag for phone that works?English3·2 months agoI do!
My use of a Faraday bag is more prepper oriented (i.e. solar flares) instead of geared towards privacy, but I keep a Pixel 8 with GrapheneOS, linux laptop, and eReader in a SLNT Faraday bag.
My tests have been far from perfect, but the phone’s Bluetooth and cell reception have all ceased working once put in the bag.
My shift was primarily ideologically driven. I was sick of privacy encroachment, enshittification, and feeling like my computer wasn’t truly mine. Linux changed all that.
