“Vegetables are bad for you and burgers are a superfood.”

How are people stupid enough to fall for this shit? Stop being an adult with a palate of a little boy, grow up and find some vegetables you like.

Butter lubricates the GI tract, which reduces friction. It’s just common sense

I somewhat resent the adults in my childhood for not knowing how to cook vegetables, because I grew up thinking they were gross.

Same, I thought I hated broccoli but it turns out I just hate it the way my mom would cook it. Roast broccoli? Fucking delicious.

It’s good grilled over charcoal too - the florets soak up the smoke flavor really nicely.

Or pan fried with other veggies.

          Or breaded and fried/broiled/air fried.

I also kind of like eating them raw with tons of salt, with sticky white rice as a chaser.

Basically, boiled vegetables are a mistake most of the time lol

I like broccoli boiled also. Steamed is a no go though idk what it does but it ruins it completely.

Boiled broc with a knob of butter over it goes just fine.

Right? I cook so much broccoli for my family every week. Easily one of my favorite vegetables. Goes in so many cuisines fairly well, too.

You were lied to in the sense that all “superfoods” are just bs marketing to sell you the latest cook book.
Spinach, kale and broccoli is good for you, but any argument for why these are good and not apples, seeds, beetroot, carrots, yams, potatoes, pineapple, bananas or whatever is entirely subjective.

isn’t the entire “superfood” thing (which I agree is mostly marketing BS) just about density of nutrients relative to calories and/or unit of weight?

    googled isothiocyanate

    First result

Isothiocyanates are naturally occurring small molecules that are formed from glucosinolate precursors of cruciferous vegetables. Many isothiocyanates, both natural and synthetic, display anticarcinogenic activity because they reduce activation of carcinogens and increase their detoxification. Recent studies show that they exhibit anti-tumor activity by affecting multiple pathways including apoptosis, MAPK signaling, oxidative stress, and cell cycle progression. This review summarizes the current knowledge on isothiocyanates and focuses on their role as potential anti-cancer agents. [1]

The source on wikipedia, the second result

Isothiocyanates may modulate the expression and activity of biotransformation enzymes that are involved in the metabolism and elimination of xenobiotics (e.g., carcinogens) from the body. In cultured cells and animal models, isothiocyanates also exhibited antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities and interfered with numerous cancer-related targets and pathways. (More information)

Although high intakes of cruciferous vegetables have been associated with a lower risk for cancer, there is insufficient evidence that exposure to isothiocyanates through cruciferous vegetable consumption decreases cancer risk. (More information) [2]

And the jackpot you find on Wikipedia that motherfuckers take to task as surely as the sun rises “Although there has been some basic research on how isothiocyanates might exert biological effects in vivo, there is no high-quality evidence to date for its efficacy against human diseases[Link to [2]].” It’s always that. That’s the wisdom that these people subsist off of. That is why you can’t do porn, seed oils, hot showers, shampoo, etc.

Even if broccoli wasn’t super healthy I’d still eat it all the time. It’s so good! Raw, salads, soups, curries, roasted ect… So good
