Simple Mobile apps have been very popular among FOSS enthusiasts. I’ve personally been using the Gallery, Contacts and the Phone app since a few years now. It’s a shame that it has come to this, will be on the lookout for their forks.
Unless everyone is paying, that doesn’t work. You alone won’t cover the costs of their development.
That’s why in general I dislike the model of payments or subscriptions in the current trend of software development. You pay for the app, but then the owners still pull the rug of under you, essentially using your own money to undermine you or even implement the exact opposite of what you want.
Personally I’d prefer if there was something like a subsidy for FOSS development. Failing that, I prefer the bounty system: instead of paying for the app, you pay for the development of specifc features (or for solving specific bug reports) you want.
