The podcast alternates from illuminating deep dives into food and lib politics. The lib politics are at least nominally not bigoted even as he tries to reassure his conservative audience, but for a dude who is so insistent on needing to do research to talk about things on a large platform like his own he just loves to mouth off about politics he is just factually fucking wrong about. He has very weak support for Palestine, for example, which is surprising given his politics, but refers to the conflict as thousands of yeats old because he never actually did any research. That’s when he’s not just blindly cheering for capitalism because he got his.

Nobody should have to listen to the half baked political takes of an Italian American.

If your seasoning is so thin it can’t handle some steel wool or making a tomato sauce, you’re doing yourself a favor by exposing the weak points so you can reseason it.

When there’s a gap in the seasoning, I mainly use food-grade linseed oil, it’s got a very low smoke point so it’s easier to put on a very thick layer of seasoning.

It’s uneven heat that fucks cast iron up. You can leave it in hot coals until it gets red hot and it’ll be fine if it cools slowly.

The main way to remove seasoning is to leave it in the oven and run the self-clean cycle or bury it in a campfire pit’s hot coals.

It won’t melt until 2000 F+, but you get it to 500+, then throw water on it, there’s a decent chance it’ll crack.

Sand the surface smooth enough until it’s shiny and silver, and completely unable to hold a seasoning if you want to hurt my soul.

Real cast iron mains know about the buffed soap meta and will adjust accordingly. Fake cast iron heads clean it with cold water and a prayer because they haven’t read strategy guides since 1590.

Mainly, I’m glad you included mainly. The comments section is a graveyard. It had some good stuff in there.

The main takeaway was use soap with lye and apply heat unevenly, preferably through a time-saving device such as a dishwasher.

Sometimes you do have to wash it. For example, a drunken roommate pissed in the sink after I was done scrubbing it with mainly lye based soap. I’d have to wash it then.

Just after finishing the de-seasoning process.

“soap is bad for cast iron” is and has always been a myth. if soap strips the seasoning from your cast iron you didn’t properly season it to begin with

It’s always been a myth? The lye thing isn’t true? The main soap brand generic around here has some lie. Is it not an issue at all?

soap made from lye mainly won’t have unreacted lye left in the soap, but even a little bit won’t significantly damage the seasoning unless you leave it for long periods of time

A recent acquaintance might as well have a small table with incense and devotionals to store his pan the he goes on about it’s seasoning.

yeah, it’s not that you’re not supposed to clean it, it’s that you’re supposed to clean it in a very specific way to maintain the accumulated seasoning, but people are lazy so they just say “don’t clean it!”

      also main.
