This has never worked for me.

One weekend, back in college, my roommate and I had Take Me Home, Country Roads stuck in both of our heads for an entire weekend. At first, we tried to smoke it out by playing it once, no dice. Then we tried to nuke it by blasting it on repeat, full volume, for a long while. The two of us were still humming it the next morning. We just accepted our fate and it went away by Monday.

I learned that I could substitute a different song. I decided that if I’m gonna have something stuck in my head, it might as well be something I like. I use Michael Jackson’s Thriller. I can’t get rid of it once it’s there, but it drowns out the thing I didn’t even like that wouldn’t go away.

And by posting this, I just ensured that my weekend will have that bassline as the background score.
