If you wanted the system up over weekends you’d pay us for weekends.

but also they actually don’t – especially for an internal system. How many of your colleagues are going to say “I couldn’t work over the weekend because the XYZ wasn’t up!”

Only the real sickos, and they should be ignored not celebrated.

Client-facing system, yeah I guess it’s bad, but then I question what the customers are doing on their weekends

Plenty of reasonable online services that end-users will want to use on weekends, like online shopping, entertainment like streaming. Also payment services for businesses

And thus they should pay someone to work weekends.

This but unironically. They reviewed my code, and I explained my open tickets to colleagues and handed it over to them before taking time off. I can’t be needed right now when I’m off

Oh, it was absolutely meant unionically on my part. We had a conversation last week about how some people even take their notebook with them on vacation. Colleague said he’d kick me if I ever got that idea.
Glad I’m at such a place.

I’m a network admin though and don’t have many special things going on most of the time. So any handovers are white short usually.

I suddenly had this image of a catholic priest blessing the servers with holy water.

You would be able to figure out which ones were tainted by Hell due to them releasing smoke when in contact with the holy water.
