It’s an alleged liberal bastion of human rights that’s doing this 🙄

Is this just anti-trans bigotry or anti-women? How many girls will not go into sports if they have to go through this type of abuse? There are many men who are very against the gains women have made in sports over the last couple decades and this would probably roll things back quite a bit.

Both trans and CIS women and girls being thrown in the fire once again for the sake of distracting from the fact that billionairs are destroying the planet and every living thing on it for the sake of earning even more short term profits.

It is impossible for any person with morals not to hate these assholes.

Even the usual liberal bastions within the state didn’t overwhelmingly oppose this, and some of the usual population centers were in favor. The less populous areas overwhelmingly were pro-genital exams.

My enby went to sleep knowing that a bunch of Democrats were winning. I’ll have to warn them before they leave for school in the morning. This is just disappointing. Trans rights are human rights; how is this hard?

It should be obvious that any political party that is openly pro nazi, pro zionist, and pro genocide as well as the supporters of such a political party will respect neither trans rights nor human rights.

I also hope the opportunists who don’t really care either way figure out that it’s a losing proposition to focus on trans rights as a populist way to gain votes. Then those who actually care about human rights can oppose the Nazis unhindered.

When the overton window is moved, we all (I’m cis) are at risk due to being in out groups. Move it back and the bigots become the figurative old man shouting at clouds.

Not sure why Dems are being called out here? This was a ballot initiative by a Republican, submitted for direct vote. Dems didn’t control any part of this.

Ok, when I see “Dems” I’m thinking politicians or at least party members, not everyone who voted for a candidate with (D) next to their name, so now your comment makes more sense.

WA isn’t nearly as “overwhelmingly blue” as a lot of people seem to think, though. It’s basically a couple of blue cities in a sea of red, just like a lot of other states. It usually shakes out to mostly blue statewide candidates, but the margin isn’t that big.

It doesn’t take a lot of otherwise blue bigots or people confused by the deliberately obfuscated language on the ballot to swing that vote, is what I’m saying. I’m still crossing my fingers that it’ll end up failing, since more progressive districts are larger and take longer to count, but even if it fails it would be at a margin closer than I’m comfortable with.

I do suspect that if it passes, it would get repealed in the next election as soon as people realize the implications, but we’ll see what happens.

I’m scared of this because the history of anti-trans referendums is that they usually fail. Things like bathroom laws or banning healthcare. But this children’s sports thing has captured the public somehow, it’s somehow an acceptable arena for transphobia. This sports thing feels like a trial run of other measures that can be taken. I guess it’s going to come down to how the public reacts to this because I don’t think people are quite understanding that this involves mandatory genital inspections for kids just to play volleyball or whatever. That might sour their stance on the sports question, maybe.

Furthermore I think the public simply doesn’t understand how rare it is in the first place for trans kids to A. exist and B. play sports at their school. I remember a study back when Colorado tried to pass this same kind of ballot measure that determined there was exactly one trans girl playing in high school athletics in the entire state.

that’s probably one of the legal challenges against it

idk how it works everywhere because states are different, but in general while we say mens’ and womens’ it’s really co-ed and womens’. rarely highschool girls will play football or wrestle and there’s not enough of them for a separate team. probably some small rural schools that wouldn’t have enough boys for a basketball team, that kind of thing.

The text of the ballot measure does say that yeah. It says that anyone playing in a girls’ sport has to provide documentation from a healthcare provider to prove they aren’t trans.

Its all usually targeted at women’s sports because they’re obsessed with the idea that it means trans women are cheating by being in women sports because men are big and strong, nevermind what HRT does.

Also trans women in women’s lockers is super scary to them, but less the other way.

No Statewide election in WA is callable yet. We vote by mail, and the more progressive areas around Seattle tend to mail their ballots late. Last Year Bruce Harrel had a commanding lead for Mayor of Seattle on the morning after the election deadline but after a week or so of counting Mayor Wilson won. This is likely to go the same way, although it’s hard to say if it’ll be enough at this point. Give it a week or so and then we’ll know for sure.

According to the site I just checked 40% of votes haven’t been counted yet so maybe there’s a chance it won’t go through.

Though I do not have much faith in libs of any stripe to not betray any marginalized group.

Still says too early to call, so there’s still a chance. The biggest (which correlates with progressive) districts are still counting, so it’s likely to shift a little towards “no”. We’ll see if it’s enough.

No matter the result, it’s disappointing that it’s not getting decisively rejected. Just goes to show that the bigots with a lot of ad spending money are still a force to be reckoned with.

All that just to humiliate trans kids.

And it wasn’t even a close vote. Jesus. So many people got got by the billion dollar hate propaganda and disinformation campaign. Every time this alters a child’s lifepath, musk should get donkey kicked in the head by a horse wearing a red cardigan, slacks, blue boat shoes, and a Jerry Seinfeld mask.

Simple. Lodge a complaint for every student taking in part in school activities claiming they’re the opposite sex which would change it from just the girls to literally everyone and that will change things.

If they actually try inspecting then start lodging sexual assault claims and claim the inspector is the opposite sex and thus must be tested so we know the tester is testing the correct sex.

Essentially wrap them up in bureaucracy that drains funding. They’ll cut that shit when they find out it’s going to be several hundred thousand dollars to actually do and likely more like a half million per district to try to fight.
