Connectivity for Starlink systems used by the Ukrainian military have “been restored and remains operational,” a source in the Defense Ministry told the Kyiv Independent on Oct. 15.

SpaceX, the owner of Starlink, implemented speed restrictions on Oct. 14 without warning, limiting speed to 100 miles per hour (160 kilometers per hour). The unexpected restriction disrupted active military operations, including the use of mid-range strike and interceptor drones.

“As of now, (Starlink military package) Starshield service while on the move has been restored and remains operational. We have confirmed this through reports from our units,” the source said.

“The Defense Ministry is also continuing its engagement to clarify all the reasons and circumstances surrounding yesterday’s restrictions.”

From my understanding if you have a home type plan, moving isn’t allowed, and never was.

If you had a roaming plan, which was more expensive, moving was allowed and that included the cheap plans.

Then they made this roaming standby mode which cost money instead of a free offline paused subscription and was $5 USD a month and included unlimited low speed (<1mbps) and moving.

Then less than a year later, that plan became $10 USD, and moving was disabled.

So only the expensive roaming plans now include it.

I had originally bought a dish as part of my emergency prepare package as im in a natural disaster risk area, but just kept it paused. Then the standby thing happened and I begrudgingly was okay to pay the $5 as it did have some perks. But $10 for something I was only planning for emergencies and maybe using once or twice a year? No thank you. And i canceled. Ill just turn it on the once a year when i need it for $10 then turn it off again.

Edit: oh and those changes aligned with just before the IPO so it was an attempt to get more money and raise subscribers.

well, if its a disaster it might just be free anyway, but if they make it much worse I’ll be less likely to turn it on that once or twice a year unless absolutely needed. I do need to stay connected for work at various times of the year, but I can sometimes work around that.
