I see people everywhere saying what city they live in, and sometimes even more detailed info than the city. This strikes me as unwise. Isn’t it possible for bad actors to use that info to join the dots of details you leave everywhere and use it against you? Am I being unreasonably suspicious? People always have a strange reaction when I don’t want to tell them what city I’m in. Or even what country I’m in, if I can help it. What do you all think?

I reveal as little personal information about myself as I can on social media, but I think it’s possible to have a reasonable balance so you’re able to have conversations with people (everything you say gives away something).
The communities you’re subscribed to or which posts you upvote or make comments on can give hints about your location, not just what you choose to say about yourself. For example, I’m comfortable giving away that I’m either European or live in Europe so I’ll subscribe to European communities, but I won’t join a national or regional community because I don’t want to give away that information.
