Am I the only one who finds the way Fox Weiqi works during games strange? Most of the time when I think the game is over, I pass as I’m used to. The opponent usually keeps going (whether they are winning or losing) and I can only pass 3 times. After that I cannot Force counting till about the move 350, so I’m forced to play meaningless moves.
Now I know Fox Weiqi uses Chinese counting rules, so playing in your own territory doesn’t do anything, but eventually I’m forced to play meaningless moves in the opponent’s territory. I’ve recently won two games that I’m quite sure I would have lost otherwise. I just played random moves in the opponent’s territory and they responded wrong (plus some legal trickery) and I got two small groups living there that under normal circumstances wouldn’t survive (if the opponent wasn’t just on autopilot responding to my moves)
It also makes the game drag on for so long, there are games where I’m clearly the victor but I need to keep responding to my opponent’s moves that won’t do anything, because we haven’t reached move 350 and I cannot force counting (and they refuse to pass)
Ive noticed this too on fox. In general the players there are more aggressive than on OGS and IGS. It does happen less often as you move up the ranks in my experience, at least up to 8kyu.
I think fox has much more of a fighting style in its users, so sometimes they become over-aggressive and end up self-destructing lol.
Generally I play on OGS supplemented with IGS and Fox WQ. But I haven’t been able to run IGS official client on FreeBSD (and I have no knowledge of any unofficial clients), while Fox WQ unofficial client for Linux is possible to run on FreeBSD. So even though I’ve been aware of this, it only recently started annoy me as I play on Fox Wq more.
