Beer.
Champagne. It tastes of bitter, sour and fizz and because of it’s stupidly intense carbonation, drinking it needs to be done in tiny, little, wincing sips- lest it bubble up through your sinuses and come out of your nose.
I swear people only pretend to like champage because they believe it’s the drink for ‘classy’ celebrations, so disliking champagne is, in their mind, a ‘low class’ and ungrateful thing to do.
I might have missed it but did nobody mention Raki?
Anise seed flavored…gag…
I don’t think anyone considers it “amazing”, but what in the holy fuck is with ‘gluten-free’, and why the holy hell would I ever not want gluten if I’m not allergic? Are people conflating it with “glutton”? Do they think it’ll make them fat? Gluten-free muffins sound like fucking torture devices from hell.
Red wine, dry white wine. Sweet white wine is okay.
Fernet
NA (non alcoholic) beer.
I enjoy beer, even the macro-brewery styles. Every NA beer I’ve tried is the dishwater tasting worst example of beer. I don’t get it. There are so many better NA options.
Everyone I know drinks red bull. I’ve never tried it, it smells like cough syrup vomit. Please don’t ask me how I know, it was traumatic. I’ve watched a close friend crack one open first thing in the am, she looks so happy. Blurggggggh.
Wine.
I suspect lager/beer/IPA/RealAle etc.
I love almost all of it now, but as a teen first trying it it was disgusting and I had to pretend to like it because thats what Real Men drink. I can’t be sure if its an acquired taste, or something that only comes with age, or my main suspicion is that its like Stockholm Syndrome for your tongue.
A lot of fancy stuff would not appeal to the average persons pallate. Its kinda like beer and coffee which I think some people like but many get used to. Anyway for the bulls 3rd victory my sister got dom perignon or whatever. everyone hated it but its dry which I guess is the fancy pallet appeal. although fancy pallet to me are folks that convince themselves they like it because they think it makes them better. the refined pallet.
Every energy drink ever invented.
Alcohol.
A lot of answers here are things that are acquired tastes. Most alcoholic beverages for example: once you get used to them you start to appreciate the interesting alcohol-soluble flavors that you can’t get anywhere else. Learning to like bitter flavors opens up things like coffee (though the caffeine addiction probably helps too).
The one drink that I cannot understand is cola. I remember in the 90’s seeing all the ads about Pepsi vs Coke. Restaurants and grocery stores and households picked a side. You’d occasionally encounter the weirdo or centrist who liked both, the juggalo with Faygo cola, or elitist with Jones soda, or the weirdo with a generic or another minor brand. All of them are terrible. I like a bunch of weird and strong flavors. Umami, salty, herbal, floral, sweet, acidic, whatever. I have a bag of Horehound hard candies on my desk that everyone else hates. I like to make my own mint soda by adding mint syrup to club soda. I cannot understand how cola ever became popular.
This is a personal question, different people have different taste. And it changes over time too. I can’t like anything that is tooth-shattering sweet but can appreciate bitter flavor now.
My answer to this is always a Negroni. I cannot apprehend it, and I like cocktails. The Negroni is a cup of bitter sugar syrup and I cannot taste whatever it is that people like in it. It’s like someone drank Campari and said “not sweet enough” what the heck?
Tequila, scotch, bourbon, all those I drink “lengthened” with some soda water to appreciate them and can taste the delicious flavors once they are diluted. Gin is good with tonic & lime. But the very strong, oversweet stirred drinks I don’t enjoy and Negroni is the most beloved of them.
