Strong games, free multiplayer and way less greed.

// Marathon has entered the chat

No loot boxes, no camping, not a whiff of microtransactions, etc. Just you and your people playing nonstop until way too late the next morning (+/-). 🤘🏼

I prefer 6th gen. Just enough graphical fidelity while still making it possible for smaller devs to make awesome games in a short time.

The answer is almost always that you were at the right age or in the right circumstances at the time.

But yeah, agreed, it was pretty good. I’d call it the last classic generation, before consoles finished tipping toward the online-first side and all the bad things about that. Also the last time I felt like the graphics bump was kinda meaningful (tho already diminishing returns IMO).

Consoles are grouped into “generations” since they are usually released close together, and it’s console-neutral (less perceived bias)

7th gen is Xbox 360, PS3, and the Wii (the GOATs because I grew up during that, peak of console gaming in my opinion)

      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_video_game_consoles

      TLDR:

      • Gen 1 and 2: pre-NES days of console gaming, think the older Atari ones
      • Gen 3: NES and friends
      • Gen 4: SNES, Genesis, and other friends
      • Gen 5: PS1, N64, Saturn
      • Gen 6: PS2, GameCube, OG Xbox, Dreamcast
      • Gen 7: mentioned above
      • Gen 8: PS4, Wii U, OG Switch, Xbox One
      • Gen 9: PS5, Switch 2, whatever naming scheme Xbox uses nowadays (X and S I think?)

Shit, 360 is like 20 years old now. Kinda wild it went from 5 or 6 gens to 2 or 3 in roughly the same amount of time.

Sure there’s diminishing returns on advancements, but so much was happening in gaming then.
