I got my fridge, washing machine, and dryer from Kids off the Kerb in Thomastown, like over 10 years ago. The washing machine only died last year or the year before, still have the fridge and it works great, and I donated the dryer back to them when I moved and didn’t have room.
They don’t seem to have an online store, but I think if you give them a call they could help? Idk I hate making calls so totally understand if you wouldn’t want to do that, they’re just local (as in Melbourne based) and a charity.
Check out Appliances Online - I’ve had good results from them and they take away the old machine for recycling. Next day delivery. Yes they have top loaders small and large and you can sort for that on their website. My current top loader came from there and has been good for 4 plus years.
yeah we’re looking at them, but we know from the Dishwasher Debacle that they tend to not have actual stock, just showrooms and when they finally do order in the stock you’ve already paid for they sell it to someone who’s just fucking walked in…
Not sure what they’re like new now, so forgive if this isn’t real helpful, but I’ve got a 10 year old Fisher and Paykel 6kg top loader that’s still chugging along fine touches wood. My washer has to go in a tight spot which doesn’t allow for a front opening door. I also have knee issues which override any pleasure obtainable from watching a front loading “laundry telly” 😆
I do understand that. Taking into account inflation $1400 then had the same value as $3000 today
I would like to add we were young and struggling, renting a dump and still doing Uni and paying off Uni too , this was a huge amount of money for us but I didn’t want to be buying a new machine every 5 years
vale my washing machine. Anyone got any recs? top loader preferred, only need about 6kg, hopefully somewhere can snag today

I’ve bought from AA before - both my fridge and freezer are from there - but hoping for a local bricks and mortar if possible
Good guys?

Why a top loader? Just curious.
knee and back issues, and also up against a big fat wall of Autism that says NO NO NO I DO NOT LIKE HOW THEY FEEL COMING OUT OF FRONT LOADER.
We do offset the damage by directing the runoff into the garden, and also filtration and storage.
Fair enough

Kleen Maid /speed queen
it’s expensive but will last 10 years where other brands last 3-5
sure thing. You wanna give me three grand?
I got one 30 years ago, $1400, my MIL uses it now and it works well
a good long term investment
It’s not the 1990s anymore, those machines go for three to five thousand dollars now.

yeah that does exactly nothing about the fact I don’t have three thousand dollars to drop on a washing machine right now. jfc
🙃
actually looking at a 2kg RV one later down the track. They’re about $900 but would be useful for extremely small runs and emergency runs
You asked for recommendations. Seagoon was giving her recommendation. That’s all.
Bunch of Speed Queens and Maytags on marketplace if that’s any good to you. x
I second kleen maid / speed queen - great product. Washes stuff real good
