I shared some days ago my daily barely-coffee choices. Here guests were over and we got the big guns: a Bialetti moka (gotten second hand from an OG Italian), locally roasted coffee beans, and a hand grinder.
For moka enthusiasts a new study dropped that showed that room temperature water brews better moka pots than boiling. Lance Hendricks has a video about it, but that’s basically the important part. Changed my moka cup from murky to clear and dark, delicious.
Very nice! My setup was a hand grinder and moka pot for a while before getting into espresso. It’s a great combo. I like to use an AeroPress filter in mine personally, I think it makes a big difference in the final cup.
I have to reactivate the Bialetti sometime, it was fun using it.
Nowadays only using the portafilter out of convenience…Reminder that the first coffees are not going to be good! A trick I got told, but never tested, to put back in use a Bialetti is to recycle the first coffee and use it instead of the water. Supposedly, that makes the whole pot taste like coffee quickly. (And you don’t drink that coffee)
Thanks, that sounds like a good tip to follow!
never use coffee to brew coffee
On the topic of Mokka pots I found this great James Hoffman video: https://youtu.be/UGf7mtfhOFM
I just got myself an espresso machine (miss Silvia) to up the coffee game in the office. It’s pretty neat.
