It beeps when it’s done.

It beeps when you press the button.

It beeps when you place it on the base.

But today, it beeps no more.

I classify this as a repair.

This seems to be the problem with the tech trend of removing tactile knobs or actual buttons.

Now we have these “touch” screens that can only provide feedback through annoying beeps, because you can’t feel them or hear them click anymore.

My electric kettle for example has a lever to press down and start it. No beeps needed, because when it’s done you hear the mechanism click off as the lever returns to its off position.

On the other hand my air fryer can get fucked with that one “everything knob”. I’ve accidentally turned it a smidge many times pressing it in to start. This resets all the settings that I have to dial back in and makes me want to yeet the fucker out the window.

if only they used the same damn knobs they used in the 1980s. what measured analog resistance instead of checking for bumps and shit. there’s a damn chip in there, use it to convert the analog to digital. the analog dials have SO MUCH BETTER tactile response.

I know right?! Knobs are the best; I love feeling them with my hands. Nothing can replace the tactile satisfaction of a good knob. Instant feedback when you give it a twist, with ridges and texture for your pleasure.

My 20 year old microwave has multiple beeps? Like soft ones when you press stuff, a couple of loud ones when it’s done. Some acoustic feedback is nice.

My recent kitchen appliances just beep the same volume regardless of what’s happening. To loud when using the device, to soft to properly notify you when completing a task. That air fryer experience hits close to home. Fuck modern appliances. Although my new washing machine is a shitload more efficient.

I don’t want smart tech, I want old fashioned pre 2008 dumb tech. Just make it home assistant compatible, kthx.

We’re so buried in our phones. Instead of giving someone a real smile, we send an emoji. I mean, we don’t even look at porn at our computer anymore, we look at it on our PHONE?
