MOAR DATA FOR THE DATA GOD
If this ever becomes mandatory, I’ll just start homebrewing.
Slight devil’s advocate position:
Given for the past decade, the current automated system for places that want to do this seems to be to scan your driving license or passport to store in some private database for some arbitrary length of time, this seems to be an improvement from that from where I’m sat. At least a random pub landlord, that knows nothing about infosec, doesn’t get a copy of your ID anymore.
Though hopefully this stays at the places that I don’t really go to given they’re pretty much only deployed in places targeting students. I can’t imagine your standard boozer is going to suddenly deploy door checks on everyone when there weren’t any before
I don’t think I’ve ever known of anywhere scanning an ID in any way - generally it’s just shown to the person behind the bar for 2 seconds (I’m not denying that some weird computerised thing exists somewhere- just that I’ve never seen such a thing). Nowhere should be scanning or storing anything.
I’ve pretty much only seen it at shit nightclubs and areas with a big student population. They’re not super common and I’ll be honest it’s been a few years since I’ve seen one, but then I don’t really go to either of those kinds of places anymore
Well, ideally that would fuck off as well as this new one :)
