So the frostops post I capped the other day was actually referencing the webcomic Deviled Egg by biblically-accurate-moth, which I did not know at the time and used it as an opportunity to talk about a Typewritermonkey story. But the Deviled Egg v The Boy From Venus war is big business now. Doing the rounds.

Deviled Egg is fine, I guess? It’s only like six pages at the minute so it remains to be seen if it evolves beyond being a light-hearted comic about how forcefemme is cool. It’s a better use of your time than trying to draw the blood of enjoyment from the stone that is The Bad Shencomic, that’s for sure.

sometimes I gotta stop and appreciate the fact that I am a skilled artisian. Like yeah, I can just make shit look awesome!! Sometimes it feels like I can’t do anything, but then I remember I have spent decades honing various detail-oriented skills which allow me to preform magical tricks on the eyes and disguise flaws.

In particular I really look up to museum / fine art restorationists, I love the slow meticulous attention to detail.

I’m finally really seriously working to leave the United States. But… I’d want to still visit at times. Like to see family. My wife is not American. We do not know how to get her a tourist visa, since this shithole of a country will insta-deny her because she’s married to me. Green card is for immigration intent only. I’m reading the latest Children of Time book, and as always it introduces a really fresh, inventive sci-fi concept. Not really spoilers because this is explained at the beginning of the book:

There is a machine of unknown origin that can create for you a false reality. Having surpassed its initial illusion, scientists began studying the machine to find out where it came from.

Unfortunately, the machine creates realities based on what you want, and so the scientists were lead through false revelation after false revelation of the machine’s true origins, and end up trapped in the illusion so long that their brains adapt to the presumption that everything they see is false and nothing really matters, including their own safety.

After being brought out of the illusion, they’re a danger to themselves and those around them because even knowing that they’re back in the objective world, the presumption of meaninglessness remains.

I think it’s probably the most accurate prediction on the long-term cultural consequences of LLMs.

Apparently an underappreciated aspect of bronze cannonry is that not only was it better for naval cannons, because bronze can’t rust, it was also just way safer. Cast iron is brittle, so when an iron cannon fails it’s sudden, explosive and fucking shreds the operator. Bronze is softer though, so a bronze cannon gives plenty of warning before failure by visibly warping, and when it does go the chamber will bulge out cartoonishly and maybe rip open, but the whole gun won’t explode.

Well, her last Facebook post was about a week ago. Being gone from Facebook is a normal occurrence, especially for stimulant people. So I am no longer super worried about her being dead. I tried adding a few of her accounts, I haven’t gotten a response yet but we’ll see how it goes when/if she responds
