No puzzle will be a puzzle

No story twist will be a twist

I know the route through the lost woods and can get the biggoron sword without any thought.

    I know everything.

    I don’t think I’ll play it.

It’s cool and all but I’m tired of the constant remakes. And it’s past due. They already remade it on 3DS but should have gotten a big boy console release back then. At this point I really want a new, regular 3D Zelda that isn’t BoTW a third time in a row. It’s been FIFTEEN YEARS.

      they make what sells.

you may want that, but most consumers these days don’t. they like open world games and adore remakes.

Not to mention most people playing these games haven’t played them in the past. n64 only sold 33 million units, worldwide, over 6 years. switch 2 has sold 23 million units in a single year.

It will definitely sell, that’s not in question. But how much longer are we going to do this? It’s been remade twice. Halo has been remade twice. Are we really gonna go for a third time in 10 more years, STILL with no original content? Or nothing good at least in Halo’s case. At some point people who were going to play it will have played it. And it’s not inaccessible. You can fire up an N64 emulator on any old phone or computer. A decent one will emulate the 3DS version.

It’s not that I don’t see the value in it, but it should have been done a long time ago. I’ve played it at least twice. I’m not going to play it again. When do loyal fans (or anyone mildly tech savvy) get rewarded with something new? And what happens when there is no more nostalgia to huff because we stopped making things?

because people want to buy it.

I love it. I love being able to re-play these old games.

you realize you are only one person right? and millions of other people disagree with you, at least judging from sales numbers on these.

nobody is forcing you to buy or play this game, for sure. plenty of new games are also being made, you can go buy the new kirby they just announced today. i’m not sure why you think nintendo should only make the zelda game you specifically want to play, that’s a bit nutty isn’t it?

Judging by the number of people who aren’t buying it, billions of people disagree with you. The number of people on the planet goes up, the number of people with this console goes up, of course the number of sales will go up. This isn’t an argument for anything. Random trash slop will also sell to some people, increasingly, that doesn’t mean you’re correct.

Inconsistent, like two separate people were in charge of what the game looked like and they didn’t agree with eachother at all. You can tell there was an attempt at retaining the games distinct style in some of the character design and and animations, but they went WAAAAAY overboard with Link’s design which is for some reason extremely overly-detailed compared to the NPCs. There also the issue of the game world itself seeming almost obsessed with geometry. Kokiri foreat may have looked flat in the original but it’s like a huge overcorrection in the remake. Especially compared to the Hyrule castle town which looks like it was remade with much more sense.

I hate it. It looks like shit. The overly designed tunic is disgusting and reeks of the issues with video games today. We are too focusing on the fact of making shit look cool instead of making shit look like a video game which is a constant issue over the many many myriad of multiple graphic generations.

Also I really wish Nintendo would MOVE THE FUCK ON FROM OOT. GOD DAMN IT.

Tl;dr: gamer don’t want shiny picture, gamer wants game

i’m pretty bumbed. a remake of OoT that incorporated the improved combat and map design of the newer games would be an insta buy, but it seems like the same game but with a focus group approved Nintendo-Hire-This-Man hyper detailed art direction. the “playing the songs into the mic” thing is neat at the very least, but other than that i can’t think of a reason to play this over the original

I have qualms about it as well. Hype realism freaks me out sometimes. Can’t even handle the 3ds version. I luckily got a Nintendo and first edition OoT on eBay. I stick to that.

[insert the totality of the I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream 'Hate' monologue]

I finally understand what one of my mates felt when everyone was glazing SH2 Remake.

Trash garbage. Looks AI Generated. Looks like DLSS5. Looks like those old “THIS WILL BE MARIO IN 2016” shitposts from the olden days.

The shitty runoff of something I loved.

OTOH, as long as Nintendo keeps sucking, I’m glad, means I won’t be tempted to give them any more money, which with how evil they’ve been, is good for me.

SH2 Remake completely misunderstood what made SH2 a masterpiece and was garbage. At least it didn’t look like GenAI. Plus I don’t have any personal attachment to SH2 unlike my friend. People just glaze it because they are young and never played the original so they don’t get it.

This one, on top of all that shit, looks like Generative AI. Ugly as all fuck. If you want to pay a fortune to play algorithmically-generated slop that can and will be taken away from you with no warning because you don’t even own it, be my guest.

It looks foggier than Superman 64. Why is there fog or mist in every shot of that trailer?

Young link looks like a toddler, not a 10 year old. Why do their faces look like that?

How does voice acting improve on the original?

I’m going to stick to the fan recomps when I get the OoT itch. This looks like dog shit.

Overall I think it looks fine. I think the spirit of the original is there.

I don’t like how shiny some parts are, especially when they’re wet. It just looks bad like a simple filter slapped on.

I’ll probably play it at some point, but I don’t need to play it day one.

  • I was more excited when I thought this was a trailer for the movie. I am not a big fan of remakes; I prefer entirely new things. The only thing aside from the visuals that would be beneficial is modernizing the control scheme; but OOT is so simple, the fact it was an early 3D game when they hadn’t yet nailed the controls wouldn’t really make a huge difference. The camera might control better having the right stick be dedicated to it; but that’s about it.

I think I am done with Nintendo because of their greed. I won’t buy their games or any consoles for this reason.

It’s one thing to make money, but it’s quite another to take advantage of loyal customers, keep tariff refunds, file frivolous lawsuits, and overcharge for everything.

Young Link and Zelda’s faces are terrible. They put a lot of work on the main cast (Link, Zelda, Sheik, Ganondorf), they put half as much effort on Saria who looks decent, and then for every other NPC (Castle Town) they just… didn’t do anything? Are the Castle Town characters even from the same game at all? I’d be fine with a style of the same level as Saria, but the DLSS5 yass faces for young Link and Zelda are just bad. Sheik looks a little over designed but not awful (after all, we don’t even see the face, that helps), Ganondorf looks the best of them all. Adult Link might be okay but I didn’t look for a stable shot of him for too long - I just don’t quite get why they made so much touch-ups on young Link’s outfit, fabric textures and all, but apparently close to nothing on adult Link? ETA slowed down the trailer, adult Link looks fine (glimpse of the red tunic design fluff looks sweet), it seems that only young Link and Zelda are super weird overdone. Maybe it’s not that bad.

New UI and UX is the most expected. The reuse of the Breath / Tears / Echoes item selection menu leaves a terrible taste, but since we have a much more limited item selection, maybe this is the best case they could have thrown this on. Should be fine, that was the most basic thing to update. Quest log presentation is nice UX update.

The touch-up on the combat system and animations is gorgeous, the sword swings and the hammer swings feel great. The monsters look amazing, bosses too, much better than the human characters. Darunia and Ruto look borderline uncanny valley but they might be okay in game.

Environment detail quality is fine. I’d be fine with less sparky ultra detailed textures and materials and fabrics, this isn’t quite my taste and Kokiri Forest might be a little too busy, but I would be okay playing a game like that. The few shots we saw of the Spirit Temple, as well as the Gerudo Hideout, the field, seem to be great, Castle Town and all that - textures and detail wise, it looks fine.

BUT… Maps are 1:1. Utterly, extremely disappointed on that. Like… The Deku Tree has a flat ground, flat walls, flat everything. It looks like the dungeons literally took the 64 maps and slapped a new hyper DLSS5 texture on it. They added a dedicated jump button, but the dungeons will have all the same flat surfaces and the same ledges to grab and everything - what even is the point of the jump button if everything else is the same? Where are you even going to use it that’s new here, where are you going to jump that the OG didn’t already do if the polygons on the map are literally the same? Castle Town also using the same map with no change, the same square, the same alley, is the worst, the most “zero effort” spot. They might have added more details to Hyrule Field, touched up the hills and river banks, but it looks like everything else, every map, every screen will be 1:1 identical - except the Hyrule Field map which appears to be just a little shorter at the bottom for some reason under the ranch? Did they cut the river from the Gerudo valley entrance a little shorter and made the field match, since there might be much less or no field transition scene? Hyrule Field was at the very least the one place I expected to see get bigger, but no, it’s shorter.

This suggests that the whole game will be 1:1 after all. Every single heart piece location, gold skulltula? Exact same. Every single dungeon room? Pull a guide from '98. Volvagia strat? Identical. Now I have to wonder what they’ll replace the stone / shard of agony with, because it’s looking like they didn’t spare any thought for that sort of thing. And most of all - absolutely zero change anywhere, no lore update to match the more recent games, no environment design update beside the ultra realistic UE5 standards, zero new location in the world, no extra room in any dungeon, no moved item, no extra background lore, not a single inch changed on any wall or floor. Nothing on the Sacred Realm, no change in the Forest or Shadow Temples, the most we might get is a couple new lines walking next to random NPCs. The presence of the Triforce mark on young Link seemed to hint that they were going to adapt a couple things from later lore, but I don’t believe in that anymore, I’m expecting identical dialogues, even the cutscenes are 1:1. They straight up looked at all the “Nintendo, hire this man” comments on every UE4/UE5 Mario / Zelda Youtube video and said okay and nothing else. ^actually they said we’ll do that ourselves and This Man is getting a C&D^

Dump the texture pack on Ship of Harkinian and bam, that’s this remake. This is the 3DS version a second time. Like, just take the 3DS version and put the same control / menu touch-ups, that would have been fine.

Since all the work is clearly done, Majora’s Mask should obviously be expected next year, no change (but this one would have been a more obvious choice to leave 100% untouched).

Only change I think I’m spotting is the item screen, there appears to be a spot for a 5th bottle, since there are 5 spots at the bottom with the same design? And I assume that 5th bottle takes the spot of either the masks / item swaps or the ocarina, sending them somewhere else - it would make sense for the ocarina to have a dedicated button.
