    Two things.

One, sometimes they know they are hypocrites. It’s a power move. It’s showing they’re above the rules. What are you going to do about it? That’s right: nothing. Because you are weak and they are strong. The longer they get away with it, the worse the problem gets.

Two, many conservatives world view is centered on hierarchy. The people above (kings, senators, billionaires, whatever) rule. The people below serve. Everyone follows the people above them and orders around the people below them. So in this model, it’s not hypocrisy. McConnell is a white Republican man. He can do whatever. The other guy? He’s a {slur}. That’s it. That’s the whole world view.

Also nothing matters until it matters to me, specifically. I have no morals until i am personally affected, and my empathy extends as far as arms-reach.

What’s frustrating to me is that on the one hand, it’s important to call out the hypocrisy and to report on it, but on the other, calling them hypocrites isn’t just a lack of consequences. It’s actively incorporated into their strategy. They know there will be public backlash, or even [gasp] someone slamming them, but through it all, Mitch McConnell is still in office, period.

Hypocrisy-shaming feels good to do, but if that’s the worst price they have to pay, then that’s hardly any price at all. Governor Beshear is making noise, and good on him for doing so, but that’s ultimately all it is: noise.

George R. R. Martin is the human incarnation of procrastination, but he’s written some pretty memorable lines. One that comes to mind here: “words are wind.”

Gov Beshear is failing his constituents and the entire country by failing to immediately appoint a replacement.

We’re well past the point where words will do anything. Real actions that at the very least make them truly fear for their life are the only thing that can show them they have anything less than absolute power now.

MAGA loves stuff like this. They will ruthlessly pursue every small infraction or faux pas by the opposition and celebrate when they do it themselves 10 times worse as owning the libs. The left can’t get it’s head out of its own ass and realize that social conventions and customs are dead. If there are not hard rules enforced enthusiastically with material consequences for violations this type of sh!t will only get worse.
