Watching the machine manufacture consent for surveillance has been truly surreal

I am confused as to what Dahl imagines surveillance cameras could have done, as there were police officers standing roughly four paces from the shooters at Bite of Seattle. How could a camera have stopped what armed police officers standing feet away could not?

Ill say it every time this comes up:

adding cameras and tracking and survelliance is what weak, lazy, bought-off-and-paid-for leaders do, to trade liberty and privacy for additional arrests

kicking the can down the road, spending money that could have gone towards any number of positive things, like supplies for kids in schools, or even just additional human employees to help the existing ones who claim they need cameras everywhere to do their job

real leaders push plans that address the problems that lead to crime in the first place

like massive income inequality

but people don’t want to hear “your system sucks and needs fundamental change,” for a myriad of reasons

and so here we are. a massive number of disorganized workers, argung and seething at each other over belief systems, ancestry, skin color, gender expression, where exactly on the planet you popped out of your mom

treating each other less than human

less than we would demand to be treated and repected

while, from their mansions and yachts and private planes, a tiny number of people pit us against each other so well, a majority of us can’t even decide what someone truly competent and representative of our collective needs looks like
