Authentic rant on neurodivergent history.

Allegedly,

Some parents of children with autism will respond with feelings of loss.

They feel like they have lost their child, that the child who is there is not the child they had.

They will express the desire for their child to be returned to them.

In the modern age we have professionals that can help these parents appropriately, understanding that the child is still very much the same.

But in an older context, this narrative rings all the bells of an ancient tale, the tale of changelings, fea folk who steal your child, replaced by one  of their own.

Allegedly,

In the olden days the shamans of many celtic village had an agreement, during the harvest festival they had all the villages come together to honour the fertility goddess Eostre, there is no historical proof of any mass orgies taking place during this ritual nonetheless it is believed that free sex was practiced more openly during this time, not just for pleasure. But because the shamans knew this to be necessary to combat interbreeding within their own village.

It is not hard to see the reality, small settlements and villages that people rarely ever had the means to leave where everyone know everyone, that everyone was also to some degree related to everyone.

I doubt the festivals could have been enough,  considering that they are most likely always the same tribes within walking distance of the gathering spot.

No it believe its only natural, while unnatural to long term evolutionary survival that early human society was absolutely rampant with varying levels of incest.

What most people know of the effects of  interbreeding is the evidence we see in paintings of the elite, stark highly exaggerated facial features. Dna that kept reinforcing itself into a more more extreme appearance with every generation.

The visual aspects we have proof in these paintings and other sources. But i refuse to believe it is mere looks that get extremities. Neurology can be inherited just as appearance and its therefor my belief that during these historical times the neurological divergence between different groups of people reached a high.

With this context it is not at all hard to see how some folklore found itself its roots. Those   Tall people living on the other side of the mountains with their strange shaped ears and alien cultural habits and behaviours. Those are now elves.

Globally there was a neurodivergent peak, at the same time all neurodivergence was centralised.

Those times are long gone, in the modern world we can travel great distances to meet new people. Those extreme features have bred out over time. But some aspects of it have remained, have evolved.

Today there is a huge pallet of genetic makeup that can exist in a mind.

There is no difference between neurotypical and neurodiverse brain cells, one is just more common. All families contain a range of neurodivergent features, some dorment, some expressed in itself a wide range of ways.

Neurodivergence is what makes neurotypical people unique.

And for others, some combinations of neurodivergent dna and how it gets expressed, even more so…

I don’t think this is a fun hole to read. Nor is it scientific. Post it on slash philosophy or something.

I got distracted before reading it all but the bit about ancient tribes meeting yearly to combat inbreeding reminded me of the novel Circle of Days by Ken Follett which takes place in exactly this time and is just a really good read overall.

John and Mary (if you’re talking about my original characters from my original illustration)

If you’re just talking about those cool Celtic battlehorns from a photo I found online then the name is “carnyx”.

Do not be afraid to ask.

      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neurodiversity

Its a label invented by the autistic community to mean anyone who’s brain is wired differently from what is considered a “typical” brain.

Its strictly different from a medical label in that it does not require a recognised disability.

Autism, adhd, dyslexia and many more medical labels all fit under the neurodivergent umbrella.

Its also well known that there is huge amount of overlap. People with autism relate with adhd memes and vice versa. People with dyslexia often have similar sensory issues as autistic people.

All know what it is to grow up in a society where you are considered different or even broken.

It might be correct to state that actually adhd and autism and the likes do not exist at all. And they are all on the same multidimensional spectrum of neurodivergence. This is the gate where neurodiversity becomes a real science. Its also where my rant is about. I dont believe a brain is or is not neurodivergence but I believe the neurological structures of their brain are more or less common/rare. From which in total a unique conscious person emerges with more a more common or rare set of features.

But it can also be a dangerous idea when people without disabilities get acces to the same resources as a person with a disability if the exclusive diagnosis is not there to differentiate.

This is why in the professional sector often refers to “autism with and without diagnosis” as separate groups, acknowledging that many absolutely autistic individuals do not meet the criteria for an autism diagnosis.

This also explain why many normal also people claim to have “a little autism”

I refer to these as having one or more autisms

In contrast to someone where these features being more impactful. Is autistic (controversial subjective terminology)
