People in need who are engaged in services, follow existing laws, and comply with basic rules will receive a Vehicle Resident Assistant Permit allowing them to continue living in their motorhomes and travel trailers on city streets while they wait for appropriate shelter or housing.

Motorhomes and travel trailers without a permit will be limited to parking on city streets for two hours at a time and would prohibit unpermitted motorhomes and travel trailers from parking on city streets between midnight and 6 a.m.

Impossible to get even a temporary permit unless you’re homeless and ‘engaged in services’…

Well, fuck you if you’re an RV traveler who wants to park on the street overnight in front of your family’s house while you’re visiting, eh?

And fuck you if, say, you’re getting your driveway repaved and have to park your RV on the street overnight to get it out of the way.

And fuck you if you thought it was a good idea to pull your RV out of storage the day before your trip so you could easily leave early in the morning.

And fuck you if you’re just passing through and need to find a place to park, but you happen to be passing through between midnight and 6am.

And fuck you if you’re a “van dweller”, voluntarily “homeless” because housing is so damn expensive it’s a waste of money. (You don’t qualify for “services” because your income is too high, so you can’t get a permit.)

And fuck you too if you are homeless, but going through the paperwork to acquire that permit takes more than 2 hours to complete!

IMO, the restriction on unpermitted RVs is too strict. Should be at least 24 hours. Cut people a little slack, alright? And there should be a pathway for non-homeless people to get temporary permits. As usual, they’re focused only on the “problem” at hand (homeless people in RVs), without thinking about how their new rules will affect others.
