It’s still the best social media for anything worthwhile. Hyperlocal news, sports, government agencies, corporate news, everyone posts there since nobody looks at Facebook anymore and Instagram is mainly for pics. All the good artists are on Twitter as well.

Nobody is posting to Mastodon because actually finding information and people is proper impossible. I mean hell I almost never see any posts from Mastodon getting posted to any meme community because everyone is all tech and politics and doom and serious.

Congrats on that btw, it’s those things that give me a tiny shred of hope in humanity.

But the “uneducated” part is not necessary, come on. Just because someone on the other side of the planet has probably not investigated the finer details of your domestic politics such as what social media platform was used to organise protests?

Just posting what I replied to the other person –

After being retrospective I agree it’s uncalled for but I am just tired of western bias of many social and political issues

this sounds like being proud of a western bias. we are the fortunate. it should be our duty to consider perspectives that have been disadvantaged and where information about this side of the internet doesn’t flow as freely as it does in the first-world culture.

was saying “uneducated” wrong? sure. but who was responsible for the frustration and misunderstanding that led to using that word in the first place?

I know that I’m just one person, but I find it interesting how I’m always online but never using twitter, ever, for anything. I’m not even trying to avoid it. And yet, it’s so damn popular. I just hate the format.

I actually don’t like the format too much myself but ever since they raised the character limit it’s a bit better to follow

Ironically nextdoor is actually pretty active, but goddamn is it a toxic cesspool of fascism. I can’t even try on that platform anymore. I tried for a few months, and naw. I don’t like surrounding myself with willfull ignorance.

I wonder if Twitter just hung onto market share in India while it hemorrhaged users in the anglosphere? IIRC we’ve seen this with Facebook in a few places. Basically everyone I want to follow moved to Bluesky or at least is posting their content there too - there’s a few local governments that are stuck in 2010 technologically due to indifference or lack of budget that still only post stuff to Twitter but that’s fairly unusual, but is infuriating enough for people to post about it.

That’s possible, I don’t know literally anyone from India on Bluesky; In fact there’s more people I personally know who are on Mastodon as it’s prevalent in the FOSS ecosystem. But Mastodon doesn’t bring in general people easily so literally the only people I follow there are related to the FOSS ecosystem (and similar nerds)… A lot of the accounts I follow are just bots which mirror content from Twitter.
