I feel the same about Japan. China got bullied right from the first point of contact with Europeans right through to the end of WW2. They even have the term “century of humiliation” to describe the worst period of it. But nobody is able to bully them anymore, and that has been the case ever since the founding of the PRC in 1949.
The Chinese people can now defend themselves from imperialist aggression, and Japan would do well not to try anything, because they no longer have a controlling stake in China’s future.
