You don’t grade the week based on ups and downs, you grade it by how you feel afterwards. And, since you stated you found a solution to the weeks problems, I would call that a win and a good week. Experience is just a series of mistakes that you learn from. And you have that.

It’s true, I am going into next week feeling a lot better about things. I just wish everyone else realized we are all part of a team and success is a lot easier working together than at each other’s throats. They’ve set themselves up to look like idiots, and as vindicating as that will feel, I’d rather we just cooperate and deliver and make us all look good.

Unfortunately, we are not at all close to that in our modern society. There are too many selfish people. Best thing to do is to continue to do your part and hope for others to do theirs. But keep a low expectation for them.

I’m just not wired that way. I’ve achieved my career goals — any further and I get further from what I enjoy about building software. I just want to help everyone achieve their best at this point.

More money is always nice, but I have enough to enjoy life, and what I really enjoy is helping others and the best way I can do that is share my thirty years of experience. But people come with their egos and ambition and I’m not about that.

I’m on my deck with a cigar and jalapeño martini and the love of my life at my side and no one can take any of that from me, so I’m not in competition with anyone.

Thank you for the perspective, though. I chose not to be so cynical because I don’t want to live in that world, but when I am confronted with such disappointment, it is a bit of a shock.
