Stop reading and parroting. Start thinking critically. You may or may not come up with the same conclusions but at least they’ll be your own. Ah, who am I kidding. I liked “Barney” as a kid.

The older I am the more I notice how capitalism is so ubiquitous that it’s pretty much a religion that’s being hammered into brains of everybody from an early age. Having cartoons becoming ads for toys in the 80s led to irreparable harm for every future generation. It’s unfortunate that using language / philosophy designed specifically to talk about this has been ridiculed to the point of most people having negative knee-jerk reaction to it. It’ll probably take many more centuries of unnecessary deaths until people realise this, similar to other religious mass delusions.

This thread was not meeting 50% quota so while this comment is a bit of a joke it’s also very much serious.

I like this quote from Disco Elysium. Really made me think when the character said it (Joyce Messier):

Capital has the ability to subsume all critiques into itself. Even those who would critique capital end up reinforcing it instead

imo, this is clearly a tumblr take, and one that was born in reaction to the other common tumblr take made by people who only care about children’s media and leftist theory, which is “beloved nostalgic animated series is actually secretly super progressive and leftist actually”, itself born out of “beloved nostalgic animated series is kinda bigoted in some places tbh”

a fedi take would be “voting in elections or organizing revolution? this is a fake choice, neither lead to freedom. the only way to attain freedom is using linux.”

“voting in elections or organizing revolution? this is a fake choice, neither lead to freedom. the only way to attain freedom is using linux.”

That explains why since joining the fedi my cell phone has been slowly looking weirder

Day 1: signed up for hexbear

      Day 2: downloaded duckduckgo browser

Day 3: thought hexbear was maybe a little too friendly towards north korea, left

Day 10: signed up for beehaw using duck duck go browser

Day 11: saw through my first wiki edit to ensure it remains

Day 12-14: got into an argument on the discussion section of a Wikipedia article

Day 17: left Wikipedia, downloaded f-droid to be able to download a new keyboard on my.phone

Day 18: enabled 7 day duckduckgo trial for VPN

Day 25: really started thinking about communism and if pure societal focused decision making was best

Day 26: wondered if capitalism could be defeated by driving property values up by beautifying your own rental

Day 27: deleted dumb apps because duckduckgo said they made lots of requests

Day 28: started looking for best way to share photos without google, settled on service needing end to end encryption, decided against self hosting solution after research (but still researched). Downloaded new keyboard and started looking into expanded version of fediverse, liking that w3 had something to do with it

There is one scene in an earlier season that comes to mind where he gets bonked, goes a little bananas, and has an Ace Ventura moment. I rewatch adventure time on an almost monthly basis and thats all that comes to mind for him. As a trans woman, it is still a little jarring everytime, but its just a second

Intro level Leninism is just subverting the will of the voters and writing prolifically about how you can’t be wrong because then this whole ordeal would be horrific.

McCartneyism-Lennonism is a lot like christianity you have to get kids brainwashed into it at a young age before they can start to think critically.

I mean this is valid for things like My Little Pony where it really isnt trying to address super serious topics. But for things like Steven Universe where the villain is a literal genocidal fascist, the criticism this is mocking is kinda right.

The show is an allegory for being trans and how family may treat you like shit for wanting different things than them. It is made for kids under 13 years old. Telling kids they should kill people after they have changed and agreed to fix what was broken seems like a bad thing.

Also, the creator (Rebecca Sugar) is a queer Jewish person, so I think they are well aware of the history of fascism and its consequences. They chose to make the tone and arc of the show anyways, and maybe you should think about why they made that choice before criticizing a children’s show for not encouraging murder as a solution to problems.

Also, shattered gems are shown to still have at least some awareness, meaning that shattering the Diamonds wouldn’t be killing them, but subjecting them to eternal torture. While also removing the only hope for fixing the gems that are corrupted. Which is what the Diamonds are tasked with to start making things right, along with giving up their social power over the rest of the gems.

Steven Universe was the first show that came to my mind too. And my issue isn’t, “They should have murdered the diamonds.” No one said that in this post or thread.

However, the fact that they just get forgiven with basically no consequence is a problem. Consequences don’t have to be murder. But they kind of just agree to do the right thing from then on, while still staying in charge. We all know none of it works that way in the real world. There’s no combination of words that someone could say to, for example, turn Trump into a good person.

They don’t stay in charge, and they are also tasked with fixing all the corrupted and shattered gems from the war. So they give up their political power and fix their mistakes. I don’t know what further consequences (that would be kid-show appropriate) they should get.
