The East is Still Red is a really good analysis of why China is in fact socialist, a relatively short read at ~200 pages.

China provides a powerful example of what socialism can achieve. Not only is the Communist Party of China committed to Marxism, but it is a leading force for the development of Marxism. China is building a form of socialism that suits its conditions, using the means it has at its disposal.

Not a serious comment really, just: 200 pages is a short read? Relative to what?

A lot of books tend to be at least double in size in my experience. For example, The darker nations by Vijay Prashad is around 400 pages.
