What a disgrace, considering that just a year and a half ago, the CDC was one of the most important medical organizations in the world.

The blatant incompetence and boundless greed of this regime are not only responsible for diarrhea and the decline of the U.S. as a center of scientific excellence: the decisions made by these criminals are directly causing the deaths of hundreds of thousands of people.

It is irreparable damage—the kind no one could have anticipated amid this absurdity. The lesson is clear: the U.S. cannot be trusted, as the unscrupulousness of its leaders knows no bounds.

Oh, I anticipated all of this. What I didn’t anticipate was how quickly the fall of Rome the United States of America would take place.

Rome took centuries to “fall” (and another millennium for the other half). From the death of Marcus Aurelius and the stability of his reign in 180 CE to the death of the last Western Emperor Julius Nepos and formal dissolution in 480 CE, it still lasted longer than the US’ entire lifespan so far. Hell, the Crisis of the Third Century started ~230CE, still leaving us with 250 years.

We’ll see how quickly the US will actually fall. I don’t believe it will be quick, but I’m sure there will be interesting lessons for future historians to draw.

Those who don’t know history are doomed to repeat it. Those who do know history are doomed to see it being repeated no matter how many warnings they gave.

Those who do know it are doomed to hope for a plot twist.

History doesn’t entirely repeat the same exact way. There’s always a little variation. Sometimes, the result looks identical, but sometimes something has changed (for better or worse). We can try to talk about it, keep warning people, maybe learn from past attempts at warning to see what we can improve. We can try to find ways to at least shift the cycle, even if we might not be able to break it.

Because one lesson that we can learn from many successes and far more failures is that persistence, the will to keep going despite setbacks, is critical to any effort at change, be it military, civil or even just attempting to eat healthy. It’s not the only important bit, but nothing will change if we don’t try.

Yes, it was foreseeable that the MAGA fascists would ruthlessly enrich themselves, and also that there was an immediate danger they would do everything in their power to establish a full-fledged autocracy in place of the usual oligarchy with a veneer of democracy -which is exactly what they are doing.

Nevertheless, I think the degree of ruthlessness with which these criminals are operating caught the world completely off guard: Many countries, for example, followed the guidelines issued by the CDC right up until the very end - regarding countless medical procedures, such as preventing infections with nosocomial pathogens during catheter insertion, etc.

No one could have foreseen that this globally important organization would be completely and senselessly dismantled -which is exactly what this deranged conspiracy theorist, who was appointed secretary of health without any expertise whatsoever, did: The CDC effectively no longer exists; at any rate, it is now merely a shadow of its former self, as countless scientists were simply fired for trying to oppose the outrageous nonsense that Kennedy is propagating - this no longer has the slightest connection to science, which is why no reputable scientist can support this course of action.

It is simply utter madness! Now the world must reorganize itself, which will take years, if not decades.

And this is just one of countless crimes this terrorist regime is committing against humanity. It is plunging the world into chaos so that the billionaires behind this regime can enrich themselves even more than they already do - by brute force, by nothing but the law of the jungle.

All of this results in a regression of civilization and robs humanity of achievements that took a very long time to build - from international law to climate protection agreements, humanitarian efforts, and international cooperation in the scientific sector.

I don’t think anyone could have expected this to happen, because it is nothing short of insanity.

It was just a matter of time before we treated the CDC like the SEC or the EPA.

If nothing else, their incompetence will give us all the proof we need about why these agencies need to be run by experts and why they need to exist and be funded. I never thought I’d see the day we had to learn the hard way why greed and selfishness can’t be left to run amok. Sounds exactly the way right teaches their kids, the hard way.

What experts? The NIH was defunded. 10,000 post docs have left the country. People are retiring or exiting science. No other countries are taking up the slack.

The point is while people have been sleeping, Trump has killed science from the very front end of the pipeline of what produces experts. Experts are retiring in droves, and those mid-career are exiting science because they have no future. USA has NO CLUE how bad this is. A lot of science going on in the background keeping you safe is GONE.

We already knew all of that. The problem is that under capitalism, the rich make the rules. Until we supplant the capitalist class with a working class government, we will continue to see policies that put money ahead of people.

If this system is what I think it is, it’s the wastewater monitoring, which was a tool that helped with monitoring Covid. Remember, if we don’t test, the rates drop.

Just as expected, if you elect parasites to office you get parasite friendly policies.
