If you can afford to not shit yourself to death then you deserve to survive. There’s a significant portion of the bourgeoisie that consider most of humanity to be surplus and cheer on the deaths of the “undeserving”. Dismantling public health infrastructure accelerates the process.

For me it has the same energy as the way other public spaces got destroyed in the wake of the Civil Rights Act, say. Better to fill the public pool up with cement and close it than possibly allow black people to swim. Or the way everything costs money or is hostile architecture now because otherwise homeless people or teenagers might loiter there (the criminalization of “loitering” is another consequence of giving up on Reconstruction).

The present crisis of capitalism is shooting off all kinds of strange light and heat and sparks. The end of public health is one of those.
