PP was inherently anti progressive and obsessed with culture war shtick/identity politics. Carney is PP, minus all that stuff. in the way that Carney takes all PP’S would be political wedge tactics, like immigration reform, criminal punishment reform, and oil infrastructure expansion ideas, amongst a laundry list of others. and uses those ideas for his own platform, while not directly attacking the “wokes” in the open, for rural voter brownie points.
in that way he is better than PP for what liberal/conservative voters think progressives are in this capitalistic hell hole masquerading around as a liberal parlimentary democracy. in actuality he is harming everyone in a certain tax bracket, equally. just not the tax bracket that needs to be harmed, by everyone.
the only progressives that exist are anti capitalist leftists, who dont really see themselves as “leftists”. they are just people who wish to dismantle the power structures that enslave us, harm us, and harm the environement. their basic tenants are simple. is it good for the environment? and is it good for people? and if it isnt, well, then maybe we should get rid of it and replace it with something that is good for people, and the environement.
and when you boil it down, it really is that simple.
but capitalists have spent trillions convincing the whole world that there is coke, and that there is pepsi. you can only like one, and you HAVE to choose one. theres no other option, and if you find one you are a dirty evil socialist and commie who needs to be shot in the streets like the freedom hating dog you are!
ironically coke and pepsi are both owned by the same group of insitutional investors, with whom they are beholden to. particularily black rock, and vanguard, as well as state street. which is a perfect example of corporations “hedging their bets” the same way corporations and the mega wealthy hedge their bets with politicians. a fake rivarly gets the people motivated, gets them talking, gets them moving, engaging. voting. completely unawares at the larger game at play.
and in there lies the illusion of modern democracy, yes, even in Canada.
corpos own the government, the government controls the people. the people do the work, the corpos extract the profits, the people work for peanuts, and die earlier from a lifetime of stress, and lackluster material conditions due to the nature of labour under capitalism. while being completely distracted and made ignorant by the ever advancing technology behind the new bread and circus, or “door dash and netflix”…who knows what itll be next. nutrient paste with addictive chemicals to rewire your brain to not notice the lack of flavour. as flavour is for the premium plus subscription at 299.99 a week. and i dont know, maybe something akin to brain dances from cyber punk? basically a VR machine that makes you forget about your material conditions for as long as you can afford the compute.
basically everyone is likely to be too busy cumming all over themselves while hooked up to some kind of VR system and a nutrient IV bag to revolt against the ruling class during the worst of the climate collapse and resource wars.
and thats for what used to be the middle class. everyone else will likely either already be dead or drafted and shipped off to some forever war that has no meaning, just so they can keep testing new weapons from the safety of their “below nuclear threat level” bunkers, deep underground. complete with child harems and human meat pizzarias.
everyone on the surface whos too poor to afford “nutrient paste and pixels” but capable of fighting will either be used in the meat grinder, jailed and enslaved, or hunted by machine police because they represent a potential threat based on their palantir profile. simply because they said the word “cheeto” in 2017. and that is now considered hate speech against a minority group (the ruling class).
i can go on forever with the “what ifs” but to be honest this type of shit is already happening today. all over the world. so its really not so much a prediction, and more of a crude reflection of our dystopian reality that everyone is too busy jacking off to come to terms with.
also, i voted NDP. knowing full well it wouldnt do a god damn thing, i just had a gut feeling that the last minute switcheroo that brought us the “banker” who gave financial advice to harper during the 2008 financial crisis, and helped oversee the financial side of brexit, was likely not a good omen for the things to come, at least not for the working class who footed the bill in both of those situations.
needless to say, as pointless as i find voting in the face of a developing authoritarian surveillance state, i do feel a lot less guilty than i would had i voted for the surveillance capitalist banker bro whos pushing data centers and oil infrastructure, or the little trump wannaPP.
the only change we can hope to see in the future will come through a very violent revolution. and thats the case for every capitalist nation. this is why they are pushing AI so hard. to disarm, subdue, surveil, and shrink the population, to “managable levels” and ensure the safety and privileges lf the ruling class are maintained. through the automation of each one of those processes.
either get ready for some fentanyl quality slop to numb yourself to the pain of imminent collapse, or arm yourself with knowledge, skills, and other impliments and start getting friendly with your local league of ordinary gentlemen, and start a “book club”…maybe there you will find the answer to … what is to be done?
its up to you, really. good luck, have fun, dont drink and drive.
