When i was a kid, we went on something called a “hay ride.” It’s a common fall-time tradition at local festivals in the rural US American south. One of the local farmers grabs their tractor, hooks it to a big trailer, then loads up a bunch of hay bales for people to sit on while he rides around a big field. It’s kind of like an open-air redneck party bus.

Well, one year, we were doing our annual hay ride at the fall festival and the tractor hit a hole. Now, if you don’t know, the only suspension on a tractor is (usually) the tires, so bumps transfer a good bit of force.

One kid, about five years old, got thrown off the trailer, in a way very similar to that shown in this video. His arm went under the trailer tires and got run over. It was crushed so badly, he had to have his arm amputated.

If someone ever offers you to ride ON a vehicle in a field, just know that’s the kimd of risk you’re taking.

Similar thing happened to a guy I knew who was riding on top “holding” the top bails from falling off. Hit a bump, sent him flying. At least he only broke his arm.

He really needs an immediate neck massage after a fall like that. You gotta work the soreness out ASAP
