I wonder if Larian would be willing to license out the Divinity engine and associated tools. If not, BG4 is going to have to be remade from the ground up.
Who else is even making CRPGs these days? Owlcat? They worked for Hasbro’s direct competition in Pathfinder and are now busy making infinite money from 40k properties.
I think Owlcat do better writing and they’re certainly experienced enough, but they probably wouldn’t want to try and replicate the absurd moment-by-moment permutations Larian attempted - and having to do voice lines for everything would suuuuuuck. If they did do BG4 it’d be much closer to BG2, a good game (albeit forced to be in 5e Faerun, blech), but not at all the clone of the IconicTM Franchise Now With More Bear Sex that the ghouls of Hasbro demand.
Damn, Hasbro are such a bunch of weincompetent parasites. Can’t even do a good job exploiting the customers they hold such contempt for. Always have been, but the thoughtless arrogance to jettison the BG liaison team and lose Larian’s trust…

Honestly not sure if another studio could benefit as much from the Divinity engine.
Baldur’s Gate 4 by Spiderweb Software lmao
Just increase the size of the studio by 25000% and we have the next hit on our hands, I assure you.
