I know reddit is worse than its ever been and has always been astroturfed but once in a great while I still stare into the abyss and let me tell you… internet-delenda-est

The fact that they’re all saying the coast guard too, like is this the new recruiting tactic? sell the one that has less of a murder-y reputation, then when they can’t get into that they just go with whatever they qualify for?

At least the top comment is better

Anyone who tries to get you to join the military anymore has to be a fed or just so propagandized they might as well be a fed.

Fun fact Eglin Air Force Base not only has a reddit data center, but from the 4chan leak a year or so back they were responsible for at least a quarter of the posts on the site and comprised a surprising number of the mod team. Another quarter of posts came from Israel; ironically proving the JIDF “conspiracies” posted across /pol/ for more than a decade.

They’re also the second largest source of IPs related to American-run bot accounts, with the largest being the Utah Data Center run by the NSA.

I heard someone say their VPN never works unless they set it to the DC area as well.

    Step one: Ruin the economy

Step two: convince everyone that military is a cool way to make money

    Step three: World War 3

    Step four: Profit

Step five: Death by radiation poisoning

Someone should tell them to join ICE because it’s safer and there’s no risk of helping invade another country, and then get indignant when people get upset and call the military invasive scum compared to ICE who don’t do a fraction to others what the military does

I think the astroturfing is probably a major factor. If Langley already has a huge hand in running it, why not use it for recruitment to the military?

Also lots of neoliberals who want other people to go fight imperialist wars for their treats.

Yeah I’m thinking its 90% turf

Even the IDF babykiller says “hey bud everyone’s saying military but IMO you should probably try job corps instead”

Good lord, imagine the IDF freak being the (highly relative!) voice of reason among warmongers. Reddit is so fucked.

I wonder what she thinks about the Hannibal Directive relative to the claim that “they take care of their citizens.” I guess that is taking care of them in some respect.

I don’t think so honestly. I’ve met a lot of guys who did like 5-15 years in the military and then exploited the system to get a bunch of disability benefits they didn’t need and then got out and just coasted around doing part time work and enjoying their hobbies. These guys are always very vocal about how you should join the military and it’s a great decision and it’ll fix your life.

The post is about a 21 year old homeless person in Arizona. You can not live outside in Arizona. The temperature in Arizona regularly reaches 110 F (43.4 C) during the summer. Arizona celebrates Pride Month in October because it’s too hot to go outside in June. Also racial profiling by police is historically rampant in Arizona. The police very likely targeted this person knowing that they lived in a car. The state of Arizona is trying to systematically kill this person.

Imperialism is the only jobs program in the US. The US is death cult. The US is kill or be killed. “Join the military” is not an offer to this person; it is a threat. This person is being told: Join the military or we will kill you. It is basically conscription, “poverty draft”.

If the US were a functioning society, it would have jobs programs for building better infrastructure and public services. The US does not have these things because it is not a functioning society. It is a death cult.

I don’t want to have that struggle sesh again tbh but I can wholeheartedly agree with the first and last paragraph as someone who also lives in a place that is uninhabitable for a good part of the year and has the same issues of profiling and using the elements to social murder and regular murder homeless people.

We need to be putting forth a more coherent option that says “live in a cheaper city, meet interesting people, live together and split costs, work a broad gamut of jobs, and build your understanding of the world from the ground up, instead of trying to be a career climber and big consumer who’s completely untethered from the reality of the masses”.

I have worked alongside veterans; they are not really any better off than I am.

      100-com

for all the propaganda about how much the US cares about the heckin trooperinos they actually just also get treated like shit but with slightly more healthcare sometimes.

If the big reason people like this want to join the military is because they believe that it is a highly disciplined organization that will help them get their life on track… maybe we should have a disciplined organization they can join lol

I could probably offer to anyone that if they copy my lifestyle by age 21, they could retire before age 35, and still have a wide range of experiences under their belt.

Because unfortunately it is actually one of the few paths everyone in the US has to training, education, and an actual hiring job. That was done on purpose.

Many years ago I was in a unit with a First Sergeant that had a small swastika tattoo on his hand. He had this before he enlisted sometime in the early/mid 90’s. It did not disqualify him from enlistment.

Anything… and I mean, anything, that could disqualify a potential recruit can be “waivered” away if anybody in the process chooses.
