It’s hard to tell if the top is someone on the right admonishing it with an argument not in good faith or someone on the left doing it. I get the outrage if it’s a leftist but money for austerity projects like this would never go toward housing the homeless, especially now.

So “leftists” don’t like liberals because they don’t understand the difference between private and public funding?

Although the building houses a public library branch, this is the Obama Presidential Centre, not the Obama Presidential Library. There seems to be a lot of confusion around this.

But why the brutalist architecture though? It is this supposed to be post-modern? The words(?) engraved up there is an interesting touch.

I don’t understand this, so please help me out without thinking I’m trolling. Aren’t liberals on the left? Who is the meme making fun of, the top quoter or the bottom one?

Liberalism in the classical sense isn’t what’s meant by the modern use of the term. “Leftists” today demonstrate their values by helping Republicans control the government while pretending their more moral than the rest of us.

Depends on your view point. From a European perspective liberalism is center right, although I’d say that the so called liberalism as discussed in the US is pretty well into the right. The whole spectrum has shifted, so I’d say that what used to be conservative talking points are now liberal talking points.

This. To expand for those not familiar with US idiocy, liberal is synonymous with progressive policy, but they haven’t the slightest what that truly is. Its population is so ill informed that their media calls center-right policy ‘socialist communism’ or some other such nonsense and the masses uncritically lap it up.

The Overton window is very very bad here. Msnbc/Ms now would be the closest but it’s still only 1-2 people in the network.

And no, I don’t give a flying fuck what they’d be considered in Europe, things are very different here. See the Overton window being very very bad

Yeah the Overton Window is pretty bad in the US.

Everything related to the welfare of others is dogmatically condemned as unfair and evil by the political right, while also continuing with US tradition of shooting down anything with the label of socialism. Centrists can’t tell what’s up from down and blindly accept that those policies were unfair or unnecessary. Meanwhile, informed social progressives have either moved further left or buried their heads to survive the sheer amount of propaganda that their out of touch centrist colleagues are repeating.

Everyone is exhausted except for the alt-right; who also are loving the oppression and lies that the current federal government dealing out. The media is completely captured by tech oligarchs and perpetuates the propaganda by framing it as the only way to think.

It’s not hard to see why things are the way they are given that its a coin toss between people who follow whatever source of truth is easiest and those who are invested in finding their flavor of truth.

You mean to hide from the shame of giving the country to the right. The only people “out of touch” are those who refuse to believe that more than their specific niche is required to prevail in the system we find ourselves in. No one on the left of right wants compromise, they all want total victory.

I don’t agree with that. The centrists that remain “neutral” don’t see there being any political issues, just a president that is controversial whose policy they may not agree with but they’d rather keep their personal connections and appeal to “both sides.” Thus, they hear deception from the right, believe it as truth, and the tug of war continues because they lack critical thinking to determine it as a lie or a spine to refute it.

Your last sentence sounds ignorant. Of course there’s no negotiating compromise when all the right is offering is harm at this point.

Edit: Oh, I read the first portion as the centrists but you were talking about progressives. It’s probably some shame for those that didn’t vote but I think it’s more about mental health and coming to terms that the system doesn’t balance itself. Too many were complacent with what we had and recent events are quite the wake-up call.

None could. It wouldn’t have been spent on the homeless and even if it was more than 90% would be eaten up by grift, studies and administrative costs.

I like it, it looks like something that would hold Cthulhu inside, dreaming.

However, we have had many Presidents, and in my opinion we don’t need a different museum for every one of these disappointments; it could have gone to many other things that we actually need, like scholarships or even healthcare bills in collections. Thanks for nothing, you hack

This isn’t condemning liberals; it’s probably condemning racists who let Trumps and Musks skate for largesse but castigate the non-white successes who dare to look the slightest bit wasteful. And those people aren’t usually liberals.
